Tierra del Sol Base Camp

This was my 7th trip out to Big Bend and it never disappoints. Camp sites in the park seem to be full more and more often these days and this is a great alternative to dealing with the crowds in the park. In fact, I'll likely plan for this spot over sites in the park going forward. It has amazing views and it's an easy drive to the park for all the popular hikes. Kyle is a great host and is onsite to help if needed. Bring your telescope or binoculars and enjoy the stars, seeing is world class here. Pro tip - download a map of the area on Google maps for offline use ahead of the trip. Drop a pin of the site and use that to navigate (especially at night) to the site and note that the last road isn't on the map. It's not that hard to find after the first time but hopefully that helps someon

This is my first time to Big Bend, and this part of the country. My trip south from Chicago, then west from Florida, turned out to be big adventure for me. Kyle helped me get a decent wifi connection through his remote service, which allowed me to work and make phone calls over wifi from the base camp. There is no wireless or wifi service in the area, other than Kyle's wifi. He's working on getting a repeater, so the signal will be easier to pick up. I truly enjoying my stay here. Kyle has been a most gracious and accommodating host, and I enjoyed talking with him and my other friendly neighbors.
