The Trailhead Lodge

This will be the realest post you’ve seen. Came for a holiday weekend, so I do think that this hotel was overpriced for the room quality, but I completely understand for the time period I was coming. They are not the only ones that increased their prices due to that but do I believe I overpaid for under quality absolutely. This family owned motel is ok at best, it’s family and pet friendly, which is a plus. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location rocks as it’s so close to Downtown South Lake Tahoe. Bigger rooms are available and family rooms with bunks. Has heating ac, Tv, Internet, coffee maker, a mini fridge, and microwave. This is a basic motel with some cons. This was a pretty good pick. The most important point is they took both Cats for a ~$20 fee and have exterior entrances. I liked the location as it was just a couple blocks past the center of town so it was quiet. It was still close enough to be able to walk to things. The hotel is rustic and well maintained, though the bathroom showed some age. The room was comfortable, quiet and clean, perhaps the cleanest hotel carpet I've ever seen. Good water pressure and thick towels added to the comfort. A continental breakfast is served at 8 which is late but coffee makers are available for the rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful wooded area across the street.

Booked a room here for one night. Arrived and let ourselves in with the key from our lockbox. Literally as soon as we got the door open, the smell hit us. This room smell was so overtly disgusting that I’m literally shocked that anyone could think that room was okay to provide as an option. Absolutely disgusting. I’ve never smelled such a massively horrific smell. It was so bad. Stood in the doorway just floored. Don’t know if the smell was coming from the room itself or a penetrating smell from another room. We put our key in the room and cancelled our reservation in the parking lot.

We had a great stay, the staff was very friendly and willing to assist with our questions. The rooms are all newly remodeled and very clean. The location is great as it is near everything we needed. It was close to the beach and the state line. As a travel agent it was one of our better stays on a budget.

Last minute booking on labor day weekend so we were lucky there was something available. The lady on the phone was nice and it was an easy check in process. The room was clean enough. Bedside lamp bulb was out and the microwave didnt work. Tried to call the front desk but no answer and no after hours number. Place is run down and needs a little TLC. Don't think it ws worth what we paid for the room.
