The Freeport Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel

This is an example apparently of filling a need for traveling work crews. About 20+ trucks of Fidium/Consolidated Communications were in the lot. Several.of those men were lounging outside the entryways smoking and drinking beers. Not an issue but an observation that affects a decision to stay. The bed was great. However 2 queen beds in these small rooms leaves little space to get into bed! And the hallway and room was shop-worn, with damage to kick molding on ramp, wallpaper, etc. The carpet was impeccably clean and fresh - perhaps new. The toilet seat was rotatable. The shower was fine. Oddly, the TV did not have a "sleep" button or setting. Breakfast was grocery store/big box shops items. The manager up front tried his best to help us. Airbnb was supposed to make the reservation but it wasn’t there. We had only a few hours til we had to drop our son off at the airport. It took an hour to get it straightened out. Not sure who was at fault really. But once in, the hotel rooms are tiny. Hardly any room at the end of the bed to the wall. Our heater was so noisy you couldn’t use it. Shower curtain outside was a tad dark/moldy. Interior curtain was incredibly dirty and coming apart. One of our washcloths had see thru areas where the fabric was coming apart. Like a sheet curtain to describe it best. Very odd. Oh and the trim around the room is oddly stuck out so it gathers dust. This is one of the dirtiest hotels I’ve ever seen. We checked in originally for two nights and ended up leaving by 8am on the 2nd day. The staff were lackluster, and the entire vibe was roadside motel. There seems to be a road crew using this motel as well, so lots of trucks parked here in the evening. The parking lot at night is shady and single women especially should be wary, but even as a couple we felt unsafe walking to the building among groups hanging out and not really sure what was going on there. ||The parking lot was being repaved during our stay, which would have been nice to know when we checked in so we could move our car then, rather than being woken up 2 hours later to move it. The room was about 45°F when we got in. Had to turn the heater up and wait an hour for it to hear up. The hallways were even colder. The microwave sparked and zapped when we tried to use it. Price and location were good, though.

This is not a newly renovated hotel. It was so dirty and disgusting. There was black mold on the shower curtains and the carpet was so dirty my clean socks turned BROWN a half hour after putting them on. If you google this hotel you will bring up review after review that say the same thing. Everyone, including us, gets the same form letter acknowledging it. There must only be one clean room in the entire place. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
