Thames Inn & Marina

We stayed at the Thames Inn and Marina while on a Mini Cooper rally. We found the inn to be budget friendly and very clean. Staff were very welcoming. We slept better than we had on our whole trip. The views from our room and the parking lot were spectacular. Close to the Submarine Force Museum and military base. |We were very satisfied with our stay at Thames Inn and Marina.

I almost never leave reviews for hotels but I thought I would make an exception for the fine folks at the Thames Inn. Upon arriving for checkout, I was informed by the attendant that my travel app mistakenly allowed me to make a reservation despite the hotel being full for the evening. Instead of saying “sorry, out of luck,” she made a couple phone calls and was able to hook me up with an apartment on the same block as the hotel. The staff had it fully cleaned and even installed a brand new AC unit in about a half hour. They went one step further and offered me a much later check-out time which I didn’t need, but it was still very nice of them. We were initially a bit worried about this hotel due to not so super good past ratings, but still gave it a shot as it fitted the location we wanted to be at during this night. At the end we were very happy with our choice: Despite ordering just a single room, we could a significant free room upgrade to a full suite with two bed rooms and a balcony which was really nice. The very friendly staff also mentioned that they are currently renovating all rooms. They still need to work a little on their room cleaning (we e. g. found a toothbrush apparently from a previous guest in the bathroom), but beds seemed very clean and overall it was still acceptable. In general, for us it was very good value for money and would recommend based on our experience.

This was one of my favorite stops when I was in the area. The staff was so nice and fun. The room was spacious with a full kitchen. I loved being right on the water, and Paul’s Pasta Shop up the street was great. Would definitely stay here again. A man who was working on the property gave me some history of the area and said sometimes you can catch submarines cruising up the river.

Paid over $200/night in June for a room here, when I took the New London Ferry for a daytrip to Block Island. The room wreaked of cigarettes even though it was a non-smoking room. The room was loud with people coming and going at all hours of the night. The room was musty, and the shower smelled like mold. The bed was uncomfortable. This was an unpleasant stay even for one night. I cannot believe the room was $235. This place needs a lot of TLC. I do not recommend!
