Terry Tomalin Campground at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

I wanted to like it, there’s potential. The cabins were sauna level hot, they absolute need ac. It’s like getting baked in the oven. I camp without ac in Florida my whole life, these really aren’t suitable to do that as they are. Only one fire pit was maintained, the main one in the center. The others had overgrown grass around the seats and the pit making them unusable. There’s not an individual fire pit at each site, they’re communal spread out. Bugs are bugs, it wasn’t great in the cabin but to top it off the cabins have an ant infestation. They colonized in my car rapidly. We were not there long and the ant infestation is not worth coming here. There are great campsites all around us, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. IT IS OPEN ONLY FRIDAY thru SUNDAY. Apart from the rules, it works for the cabins & camping. The bathrooms & showers are clean. The entire place is clean. It's just old... the cabins have bunks for six people, one electric outlet & ceiling fans. However, the windows were all closed when I arrived, & the cabin took hours to cool down... The campsites are ok. They do NOT allow hammocks, however.

Perfect camping opportunity right in your backyard. The cabins are spacious and have electricity a well as ceiling fans. Windows can be opened and have screens. We took a night hike (guided of course), and love it. Cooked several meals on the open fire. There's plenty of space for children to run around. The bathrooms need a little sprucing up especially the showers. Overall I would definitely return.

A 5-star review is a little bit generous, since the campground does not have wifi or electric, but I am giving high marks to the place because of the ultra-clean and new bathroom building. I drove from New Jersey to different parts of Florida and I spent two nights here in March 2024. It's a pleasant and attractive place. I enjoyed my stay and would come again. I camped in a tent but next time I'd like to try the cabins which are not very expensive and look very nice. The grounds are beautiful. Background noise from the interstate is constant but it didn't bother me. The bathroom building is super clean and feels new-- the best campground bathroom I have seen. Five stars for a very nice group campsite with a constructed fire pit & moveable benches, plus access to the trails at Boyd Hill Preserve. One star deduction for a ridiculous ant infestation at the group site. Ants in everyone's tents, ants in our cars parked at the Osprey Roost, ants by the fireplace....(you get it). Fortunately not the biting kind, and no, we did not keep food in our tents if that's what you're thinking. Restrooms out of commission but super fun solar showers outside.
