Tahoe Sands Inn

SCAM ALERT! I was going to stay there with a group for new years, despite the reviews, I wanted to give it a fair shot.. Well.. I received a call from the property asking for a deposit for a big of a group before the 15th. Mind you the cancellation policy states that I wa able to get 100% of my money back two days before the 29th. Makes me wonder if I was gullible enough to send that if I would ever of even gotten that money back? Especially if I did end up canceling before the 29th. Something to think about.. I immediately called booking.com to ask them if this was normal, and no. That’s against their policy and rules to ask for extra money outside the initial booking. Room was ok for what we needed. Clean but dated. Good beds and TV. Spacious but with no closet. Towels were small and cheap and hair dryer was not working. Heating and cooling system also dated but worked ok...overall a good value for a ski trip.

Classic "you get what you paid for" Inn. VERY good location at the bottom of South Lake Tahoe so you are centrally-located to do it all without being in the center of craziness there. Very close to the Lake and Highway 50 and Stateline. You can walk to the Lake from the Inn and take the path along the Lake. Service was very good, rates were very good during October. Room and bed were good, very quiet. Only problem I had was that the wall heater would not continue functioning for 3 days/nights straight, so I woke up in the mornings when the outside temps were in the 30s and the room was about 45-50 degrees, even after their maintenance reps came every day to re-light the furnace.

The third-floor back room I stayed in was absolutely filthy. There were large, old blood stains on the bedding, grime everywhere, and a Band-Aid crudely stuck over one of the smoke detectors—so gross, not to mention unsafe. The bed was rock hard, with no fitted sheet, just a flimsy top sheet that slid around, leaving me exposed. The mattress cover didn’t even fit properly and was put on inside out.||I contacted the hotel multiple times by phone and email with photos, and Booking.com also tried on my behalf — no response. When I did reach someone, they hung up. Dozens of reviews report the same issues, so management clearly knows and does nothing.||Some lower-level rooms are okay, and it is quiet with hardly any guests, but this experience was so bad I will never return. Never again.

The good is check in was fast and easy. Friendly staff. Room was big enough. There was plenty of parking. Safe and was close enough for a ten minute walk down to the popular shopping area. Bed was decent and clean. No issue there. Fridge inside. The not so great, no ac, just a fan and in the summer, it gets toasty by evening. You can open the window but have to leave blinds open for it to make a difference. Shower and bathroom are a bit tight. The price was lower than others in the area but still could be a bit better for an overall decent stay.
