Sitka Hotel

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall simple, decent and clean. I didn’t have any issues with cleanliness as experienced from others. Been around the state and hotels like these have a unique historical edge that can be felt and smelt lol if you can appreciate that and be okay with simple this is a great place for you. Conveniently close to so many shops and restaurants.

I got stuck in Sitka due to a canceled flight and stayed at the Sitka Hotel. Restaurant and bar were closed, TV’s weren’t working, there were no bedside plugs or phone chargers, room on first floor was noisy, no soap or toiletries, blood spots on sheets, and all for $200. I would definitely not recommend staying here and will not stay here again.

The Sitka Hotel is your best option. Unfortunately, you will be disappointed. It is incredibly overpriced given the level of service and quality of the hotel. It is noisy. You can hear other guests in their rooms as well as noise from neighboring businesses. The hotel seems to be understaffed and poorly trained. Hospitality is definitely not their first priority. Our room was not ready when we arrived at 5:30pm but was miraculously ready in 5 minutes while we waited in the hallway. I try not to think about what shortcuts were taken to make that happen. After 3 days, our bathroom has not been cleaned nor the bed made. We have received no washcloths in 3 days but have amassed 4 bath mats. The weak coffee pods and paper cups have not been refilled. I’m writing this review because I want to give a shout out to the front desk staff — especially Alex who was personable, helpful and fun to chat with. If you’re in Skita, stay here. Rooms are a bit basic, but fine. Avoid rooms with “view of the water” though. The view includes a view of the parking lot where people like to congregate at all hours. A problem if it’s warm enough to need to sleep with the windows open. As with most hotels we stayed at in Alaska, there’s no air conditioning.

On Sunday, we arrived around 10 am to drop off our bags. The front desk staff didn’t say “hello” but immediately told us “check in time is 3PM.” They allowed us to store our bags in a closet. That’s fine. We returned around 3 PM and were told the room wasn’t ready and to return in a few hours. We returned at 7 PM and the room still wasn’t ready. We waited another 20 minutes and were told the room is finally ready. Upon entering the room we found it in poor condition. Body hair was in the bathtub, the room had an odor, and the room wasn’t the deluxe room I booked. I told the desk there was hair in the bathtub and that we were staying somewhere else. A member of the cleaning staff, clearly upset, said they could reclean it. We had already been waiting 4 hours past check in and didn’t want to
