Nice camping spot! We were in lot 8 and the fire pit is right in the middle so that presented a little challenge. It's relatively peaceful with some noise from airplanes and boats, maybe a little from other campers but honestly nothing too crazy. The hike in is super easy, more of a walk if you're closer to the entrance! Just a gravel road you walk down for the first bit and then it gets more natural the further back you go. Pet friendly, clean restrooms, great shade from trees, will definitely come back.(:
This is one of the best campgrounds I've ever had. I selected site 39 and it's about 1 mile to get in and out. The sites are extremely quiet, compared to those campsites with vehicles. I can't hear any sound of engines in the morning nor in the night, and the only source of noise is the boats in the lake. There is no electricity in the site so I brought my own inverter. I carried it for half a mile and realized that I need a dolly, but my battery is not very heavy so I'm just okay. Two problems: 1. There is no laundry room around the site 2. burning fallen woods is not permitted.
Fall season. Hike-in Sites. Right under the RDU Flight path so that means very loud low flying planes every 10 minutes, all day. Motorcycles and loud cars are audible from main road. Some camp sites are extremely close to hiking pathway. Feels like people are walking through your site. It's like camping in the city. Choose your site carefully. Beautiful scenery. Very well maintained campsites and facilities. Not a dig at the campsite but be prepared for people thinking they are special and not following the rules by letting their dogs roam free without leashes.
Great camp area. Be sure to look at their online maps and pick a camp spot at the ends of the "branches" where you will likely have more space and privacy. Hike on the Mountain to Sea trail that cuts through Shinleaf (just before the loop parking lot) or hike down to the end of the Shinleaf campsite area. It is a total of 2.8 miles to do the entire, wide path trail down the middle of the Shinleaf campsites to a narrow point of Falls Lake. This path is super easy.
Day 1: Shinleaf Lot37. Closer to other campers than I wanted to be. Not as close to the lake as expected. Also didnt know that it was all walking and not like where you have your car by your camp site. Was not a fan walking half a mile for blowing up my air mattress and the bathroom was closed by our site Shower pressure was trash same with the temp. The last shower at the end didn't lock.
