Shawmont Hotel

This summer was our fourth stay at the Shawmont, and each stay has been memorable. The folks at the desk have always been friendly and helpful. The rooms have without fail been immaculately clean. Some of the rooms have been small, some somewhat larger, but honestly, if you're a couple how much room do you really need? If you're like us, our room is used to sleep and to shower. Otherwise we're walking around Ocean Grove and Asbury Park, lying on the beach, or sitting on the front porch, rocking comfortably on the hotel's rocking chairs and watching passersby on the street and on the boardwalk, which is conveniently directly across from the Shawmont. We love to travel, both nationally and internationally, but we now make it a point to set aside a few days each summer to enjoy the quiet and

I recently stayed at The Shawmont in Ocean Grove, drawn by its charming location and proximity to the beach. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations, especially considering the premium price point of nearly $1,000 for two nights. While the oceanfront setting is undeniably appealing, the accommodations leave much to be desired. The room felt dated with a noticeable musty, mold-like odor throughout. There were visible signs of structural wear, including unexplained holes in the floor, which raised concerns about overall upkeep and safety. Basic amenities were lacking—there was no toilet paper holder, so the roll was left sitting on the bathroom floor. We were so pleased with the Shawmont Hotel in Ocean Grove. It was a perfect little place to have a room, and be so close to the beach and the shops, as well as the boardwalk to Asbury Park. I do feel the Hotel, and this is only my opinion could have a more beachy feel to it, but it kept with a more historical modern look, not my thing but it was clean and sharp. The furniture in the main lobby was not that of cozy or comfy either- . Service was excellent, there was an older lady there who was very chatty and obviously loved her patrons, she was there to greet us for every breakfast. Breakfast was simple store bought bagels and cream cheese, and muffins nothing fancy. Absolutely breathtaking hotel! A true hidden gem. It's rare to find an updated ocean front hotel in the Jersey Shore. The energy is radiating and illuminating throughout and their general manager Anna has a heart of gold. Feels good! I did a sound bath in the main lobby and you can see and feel the ocean from inside. It's a nice open space that fits 15 yoga mats comfortably. The rooms are bright, light, updated, and clean. It's definitely worth it to stay here!

I stayed here again in the same room as previous years. The place remains very clean. My ground floor room, which I prefer at my age, is small, but large enough for a queen bed. The bathroom was much larger than I have at home. The AC worked well. The TV is on the side wall and required me to be diagonal on the bed to watch it. The closet had a better supply of coat hangers this year. The small refrigerator which appeared last year is still working.||A breakfast was supplied consisting of bagels, muffins (sometimes), yogurt (sometimes), and granola. Coffee and hot water are available all day.||The hotel is on the oceanfront, but the high sand dunes created after the destructive Sandy storm limit the view from the ground level porch though it can be seen.
