Seven Gables Inn, St. Louis West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

My wife and I enjoyed the stay. We were in town for a wedding and I read all the recent reviews before booking. I have to say I don’t agree with what others had to say as we enjoyed our experience. The room was clean, everything worked and I didn’t hear any other guests in the hallways. We did not dine in the restaurant as we had to leave earlier than expected but did plan to eat there. The staff was very friendly, if I’m ever back near here I will look forward to staying here again.

The hotel and rooms have charm however the maintenance and restaurant has much to be desired. The in room coffee maker did not work. The lamps ice bucket, fixtures and many parts of the room had coatings of ancient dust although the bathroom and bedroom appeared to be clean. The “free” breakfast consisted of scrambled egg whites and a few strips of seriously undercooked bacon. Since I had no change I left a $10 tip. To my surprise later in looking at the bill they added a $1.80 tip to my room. There are some many better options for hotels in this area I would highly recommended selecting other locations.

This hotel could be so much more. The location is amazing, right in downtown Clayton. But the rooms we had were strictly "meh". One had no window and smelled faintly of sewage. The other had windows and was passable. The building is old and quaint, but it feels like nobody has bothered to put the thought, energy or money into making this a stand-out hotel. It's a shame.

It was my daughter’s bachelorette weekend so we decided to go stay the weekend and do other things in the area. I pre-paid for a two night stay. The first night we arrived, We were told we were on the third floor and the elevator was out so we had to carry everything up three flights of stairs. The stairs are like something you would see in an old home, steep and winding. So we carried our luggage at three flights of stairs. We get into our room by this time we’re getting ready for bed. We go to brush our teeth and the sink will not drain. I called down to the front desk to let them know and they said we’ll have to wait till tomorrow until we have a maintenance person here we don’t have our own on staff so we have to call somebody. Rented space for a corporate event at this hotel due to its charm and ability to host both inside and outside. With the original plan of having a majority of our guests outside having to be changed due to inclement weather , we were promised additional indoor space for the event that would fit all of our guests. When the forecast called for rain the hotel moved the event indoors as planned. Instead of being given access to the full space inside as promised, we were only given half the space for the event of over 100 attendees and put in a room that only had occupancy for 63. Additionally we were promised 3 bartenders and 2 servers to pass out food but only had 2 bartenders and no servers.
