Rock Crest Lodge & Cabins

Hunter and the rest of the staff at the front desk were very courteous and professional. Hunter upgraded us to a cabin (which I thought I had a 1-bed suite) and it's worth the extra money should we return. The lodge is quiet but only blocks from anything you could want, shopping, restaurants, gas, groceries. The town of Custer, SD is worth a 2-day trip. One for purusing the quaint town itself and making sure you hit the 1886 Museum, the other for driving through Custer State Park for the wildlife and history. We stayed here 4 days, to hit up Mt Rushmore (20 min drive) and Crazy Horse (15 min drive). ||On the cabin itself, I would lengthen the shower curtain or lower the rod. The heat was sporadic. Completely disappointing! Rooms are like motel style in the city. Cabins on top the hill are by some trees but are so dirty. Breakfast is grab and go of just cereal and bagels and staff was knowledgeable about hotel so couldn't help with issues that arose. Will never stay there again.

My husband & I had booked 2 nights here with our 2 toddlers in a 2 bedroom suite. We were arriving after midnight & could not get ahold of anyone to confirm a late arrival, so ended up playing it safe & staying somewhere else. The next day when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find a very clean & spacious room & they credited us a full refund for the night before. The lodge is located right on the main street in Custer, super convenient for walking to dinner! The continental breakfast was an added bonus. We would gladly stay again, if they were easier to contact (we called 15 times over the course of 5 hours & sent 2 emails).

So, this is a GREAT place to stay especially if you have dogs!!! Our cabin was incredibly comfortable! The porch was perfect for watching the sun set or just enjoying the weather. They sit on the side of a hill as you come into town and they are shaded by tall pines. The grounds are well manicured as are the rooms. Ours had a king bed, coffee maker, mini fridge and wet bar and a sofa sleeper. We decided to stay an extra night when we first opened the door. The only possible downside is the hot tub and pool close at 20:00. I would suggest adults only from 8p-11p in the summer. We never returned before 8p but would have loved to relax in the hot tub before bed. We'll certainly be staying here again or anytime we're in Custer. Thank you guys for a wonderful stay!!!!

Location is great- just a 15 minute drive to surrounding state and national parks. We stayed in the family cabin that could hold 5 (queen, 2 twins, and a fold-out couch) plus a full kitchen and washer/dryer. Only 1 bathroom, but it was nice. They have a pool on the premises that closes at 8pm and you can walk to nearby mini golf and a pie restaurant. Overall, the cabin was clean with a modern kitchen, and it served our needs. I would not recommend it for a place to "hang out" as it was dark and a tight space with a view of the parking lot, but as a stop off point to get to the parks, it was very good. The cabins up top that were more in the trees, looked a little more picturesque and maybe had more privacy for hanging out than our cabin in the parking lot.
