Red Roof PLUS+ St Louis - Forest Park/Hampton Avenue

I have been a customer of the Red Roof Inn Plus off of Hampton and 44 in South St Louis for the past 3 to 4 years. This hotel has recently been acquired by new owners and it has had a major positive effect on how things are run and the crowd of people who rent rooms here. Housekeeping is more efficient and keep the rooms cleaner. However since the rooms are getting a bit older it could use some rehabbing. The rates are more competitive than they had been in the past and now accept cash payments which is very convenient. If you are paying cash please be prepared to have exact change as change will not be provided. The staff is very nice and respectful. I only have positive things to say about housekeeping as well. Positive: I lived Negative: staff went into my room without permission. People felt comfortable randomly hanging outside drinking and smoking. It looked very sketchy.

Had to stay there last minute earlier this week after some Airbnb plans fell through. Was happy to find somewhere and had booked it through hotels.com. The staff was annoyed but I get that, it was very late. The room was a bit dark, even with all the lights on. The bed felt a bit uncomfortable. The bathroom however, was just gross. The bathtub was dirty and oily. Not just slippery, oily.

Red Roof Plus is a MINUS! Stayed here because Red Roofs are typically serviceable; reasonably priced, have a microwave, mini fridge, and relatively comfortable beds. Well the standard room at this supposed PLUS Red Roof had fewer amenities than the typical standard Red Roof. No fridge, no microwave and no tissues! Not sure if the bath tub was just old or needed a good scrubbing. The plugs fell out of the electrical outlets....had to search to find two that actually worked. The dressers drawers refused to stay shut (perhaps they thought this was a time saving plus). The touted vessel sink had no stopper.The TV and bathroom light were on when we walked into the room which definitely creeped me out. Trip Advisor rated it Average.....wish I would have read the Yelp reviews before I booked it.

After an amazing stay at the Museum Hotel downtown, my wife and I were on our way to book a room at the Drury in Forest Park. Unfortunately they were sold out and it was getting late and we were tired. So we booked a room sight unseen at the Red Roof Inn as it was the cheapest "hotel" we saw online. I pulled up to sign in and was met with a locked door to the "lobby". There was bullet proof glass window in a side room where you slide over your ID to the worker. This is behind a public storage on a side street that's very dark and transports you from Forest Park to the "The Upside Down". After getting in our room we were greeted with a ceiling that looked like it had previously fallen in from broken pipe damage. The bath tub was in bad need of re glazing.
