Quality Lodge Sandusky

My feelings are very mixed here. I love little mom and pop hotels, and on the surface, this hotel is really charming. The grounds are well kept, the staff is very friendly, and the property is quirky in a classic, fun sort of way. But the first room I was assigned here was really rough. The carpets were soiled, the furnishings were worn out, and I noticed tons of stains on the (clearly unwashed) bedspread. The latter made me uneasy about the bed, so I stripped it to see if there were any other issues. This led me to find the single worst mattress I’ve encountered in many hundreds of hotel stays. Super affordable and clean. BUT, Wi-Fi wouldn’t work, and when in the room, neither 5G nor LTE would work. TV was stuck on ESPN, so there were really no entertainment options for a mother and daughter who were uninterested in baseball. I called the remote phone line (no one on site), and while the lady I spoke to was very nice, there was no resolution to the Wi-Fi issue. I was given 3 different time frames that the owner was supposed to come and fix the Wi-Fi issue, and almost two hours later, it’s still not working (was originally told 20 minutes and it would be up and running). This is obviously a first world problem, but for about $20-$30 more a night, we would be been able to stay at an actual hotel with functioning Wi-Fi and not staying in a room with nothing to do. Location was good, on site staff was friendly. Beyond that, terrible experience. The room had no A/C and the managers would not call maintenance in. It was over 90* in the room. I used booking.com to reserve a room and was directed to contact them to cancel. They contacted the property to confirm the cancellation and all was good to go. However, it has been over 6 weeks now and the property has not issued a refund, nor have they returned calls or emails to myself and booking.com.

I want to give it a better review because the people that worked here were very nice. However, the room wasn’t super clean, I kept finding crumbs and there was a leak of some sort that made the carpet wet about 4ft out on an entire side of one wall. The room felt damp from the humidity and smelled like mildew. I will say, it is within very close proximity to cedar point, a bunch of restaurants and bars. We even walked to a couple of places near by. Hopefully the wet carpet and mildew was just our room because other than that, it wasn’t the worst place I’ve ever stayed at.

This stay was great. The rooms were very clean and the mattress was actually comfortable. We were staying in early July the weather was extremely HOT. When we arrived the staff had already turned on the A/C unit in the room for us so we were comfortable upon entry. There was a room in the middle of the place that had an ice machine, towels, extra blankets, trash bags and all shower needs stocked and ready incase you needed any extra. The staff was extremely friendly when we had met them. Although we did not use the pool we checked it out and it was very clean and rest for use at anytime. Great stay at an affordable cost near Cedar point I would recommend this place to anyone!
