Oak - Mar Motel

We made a reservation on line for Saturday 11/22/25 so that we didn’t have to drive back to Virginia after my husband families Thanksgiving Dinner. After arriving and getting registered, the nice lady gave us the room key for Rm 20. We went to that room and it was right next to a busy, noisy main road. We asked her if she had another room available that was a little quieter? She gladly gave us another room key. She sent us to Rm 37 on the second floor which she said had just been remodeled. (I would hate to have seen it before the remodel!) The room decor was dated and the bathroom was dirty. There were black hairs all over the toilet and tub. The bathroom window latch was broken. The water in the sink made a sound like it was going to blow up. We were in the room long enough to look aroun

We stayed there last night and it was such a nice place to stay and it was very clean and the restaurant right next to it. That’s always good in the staff is wonderful. I would highly recommend staying there.

What a difference a few years has made! We visited Deep Creek lake and Swallow Falls recently, deciding to stay a few nights in nearby Oakland. We weren’t planned on staying at the Oak-Mar as we stayed there a while back and thought it was just OK. But they have renovated the motel and it is really, really nice now. The beds have been significantly upgraded as well as the other room furniture and decorations. And the room charge very reasonable. The staff was very nice and helpful too. It was very nice to have a diner there attached to the motel. We knew the food was good as we saw many locals eat there during our stay. There are other restaurants close by too (if you like BBQ, there is a great place within a 5-10 min. walk, that smokes all their meat on premises, highly recommended!).

Positive: Motel had a comfortable bed and warm shower, which is really all that I need in a room. Manager was nice and called us ahead of time to see if we would need a late check-in. Negative: The walls were on the thin side and you could occasionally hear the conversations/noises of the guest staying in the rooms on either side.

Great room and great experience. Staff was super friendly, not something im used to in new jersey lol. Room was clean and very spacious. A little pricey but convenient for location during my vacation. Definitely recommended.
