McKinley Trail Camp for the Shore to Shore Horseback and Hiking Trail

Beautiful place to camp. No water, no electricity, just you and what you bring. A short to medium hike to the south is the Ausable River PSA Please don't leave trash in your fire pit like some people do. Take it all with you. There are two small latrines, basically a small toilet room with a loan toilet over the septic tank. This place was a great balance between a traditional campground and being out in the bush somewhere. It was nice to be able to test equipment and see what it's like not having electricity and water, but still having the convenience of your vehicle in case you really need to charge phone or warm up etc. Early October weekend we had the place to ourselves other than a few vehicles that drove through. This place is so quiet and beautiful! No electric, no water, vault toilets. You really have to prepare for roughing it! Bring it all so you don't have to go all the way to Mio! There's nothing in McKinley but the bar and Hotel. And be sure to check for ticks often! They get pretty bad here! Also, keep in mind that this is a trail camp. And 1 of the stops for the Shore to Shore. So if you're there and about 150 trailers show up at 3a.m all at once, that's those guy's 😂. Be nice! They are all really cool people!

Very peaceful outhouses on site no water no electric rustic .if you don't wanna camp in weeds grass etc. Bring a weed whip

Great place to camp, everyone minds themselves. No drama, beautiful area with plenty of space.

Disappointed bathrooms weren't cleaned in the four days we were there. Otherwise no complaints. Good time as always
