McDonald Mountain Ranch

I highly recommend staying here for a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Master Suite, which is beautiful and comfortable. The location is great and the views and area around it are beautiful and relaxing after a day touring the area. They are very accommodating to your needs, and Richard the owner is full of interesting history of the area. There is beautiful hiking on the property. We would definitely stay here again if we ever came back to the area.

The Carol Jean cabin was a great base for our four nights in the Black Hills ||— just 15 minutes south of Keystone and about the same to the east entrance to Custer State Park. It was also a good midpoint for our travels as far as Spearfish and Hot Springs. The host has invested well in this refurbished historic cabin, with high-end decor, linens and toiletries. The king bed was very comfortable. The efficiency kitchen and nicely-appointed bathroom were great for us and the loft functioned as a space for extra luggage. We enjoyed breakfast in the porch, watching turkey and deer in the yard. So quiet and charming!

We stayed in the Carol Jean cabin and had a fantastic experience! Very clean accommodations with everything we needed for our stay. We hiked back to Lakota Lake one day which was beautiful! This property is secluded, quiet & a peaceful retreat for a black hills vacation! Thank you for sharing your property with us and hopefully we can come back some day!

Stayed at the Calmity Jane cabin. It is very beautiful and the beds are comfortable. The view is amazing, saw wild turkey and deer right out the front door. It is close to Mt. Rushmore, Keystone, Custer state park,and Iron Mountian road. An added plus is having a conversation with the owner on his front porch ( I highly recommend you do if you stay here). If you love historical, old west vacations this is the place to stay!

After passing all of the busy, touristy lodgings in the Black Hills, we were thrilled to reach McDonald Mountain Ranch. It is tucked away and private. Our Carol Jean cabin was truly luxurious. The king bed was so comfortable and the space was beautifully well-appointed. I'm not sure this is clear from the website photos, but there is a full kitchenette that includes a fridge, microwave, induction burner, coffeemaker, sink, and basic cooking tools.||||We loved hearing about Richard's family history in the area. We rearranged our schedule so we could spend one whole day relaxing at the property and lounging on the porch because we loved it so much.
