Being lucky to get a place, we spend two nights at the camp ground. The ranger was really nice, after arriving so early (5 am!) she left us a reservation note as it was not yet clear whether there is a space. The wolves are just near by, a whole group of "wolvers" and rangers are spotting them with gigantic telescopes, explaining and telling stories. You can just drive the car and stop where there is a crowd! The camp ground has little infrastructure and generators are not allowed. So quiet and peaceful. If you need to fill the RV batteries, just drive off 1 mile to the horse stables.
Slough Creek, with only 16 sites, is a wonderful campground if you want primitive camping, away from the crowds, No hookups, no generators allowed, many sites on the water. At least 5 sites can take a big rig, but most sites are filled with small campers or tents. Often, only 2-4 sites are available a day and these are given out around 6:30 to 7:00 am when the camp host comes out, although the current occupant doesn’t have to leave until 11am. Get there by 5:30 or so to be sure to get a spot. The hosts are friendly, helpful, and run a tight ship, meaning don’t go there to party hearty. They do their best to make it pleasant for everybody. Bison often are either on the entry road or in the campground. Bears are seen regularly depending on the time of year.
We have been to Slough Creek campground probably 3-4 times. Our favorite spot is site #24 it is secluded and surrounded by trees. You will see many deer roaming the campground at all hours. The creek is an added bonus to help you sleep after a long day of hiking.
Slough creek was a 3 night stop off for us on a 3000 mile road trip around middle America. It was so beautiful and peaceful there. Some nice hikes nearby. Dave the camp ranger made our stay. He showed us hikes and drank tea in the mornings with us. Our trip was 2013 but it wont let me backdate that far. We stayed at Slough, Bridge bay and the lizard one on the Teton area and Slough was by far our fav!!!
This is a very small camp ground with 16 sites. Many sites back on to the creek and most are spacious and level. Each has a bear box. There are pumps for water (that is the best tasting water in the park!). It is a couple of miles from the main road. We saw deer and a bear at the campground. There were herds of Bison grazing on the road in. Campground host was very helpful and friendly. Get there early if you want a site.
