Jack London Inn

Was absolutely blown away by my experience at Jack London Inn! Looked a little run down from the photos and the lobby/elevator are showing their age, but the rooms are clean, spacious, and well stocked. Also, a very special shoutout and HUGE thank you to Mr. Singh! I arrived at 11AM after leaving my last hotel with two unhappy cats in their carriers, and Mr. Singh was gracious enough to not only expedite a room well before the 3PM check-in so we could get them safe, but even offered to let me and the kittens sit IN HIS OFFICE until the room was ready so we wouldn't bother the other guests with their loud meowing. I had a hell of a travel day, was exhausted, and he didn't even know me but was still gracious and kind enough to let us rest in his office until the room was cleaned. I've trav

It was a very humbling experience for me. The hotel smelled like a zoo. Watch your luggage due to cockroaches also. I stayed in one room for 10+ days. I checked out and was expecting a deposit of $50 back and was surprised with a charge of $167. I have yet to be reimbursed or a justification for the charge. I am now working with the bank to dispute the charge. Be careful with this hotel.

Positive: Staff was nice enough. It was cheap and in downtown Oakland. Character was built. They have a fridge and microwave. Negative: It's right next to the train tracks, and the trains blow their horns. Room stank like cigarettes and falling apart. I'm not sure if there are smoking and non smoking rooms, but there were no smoking symbols on some of the doors. No ashtrays.

I rarely write reviews, so please take this seriously: Do not stay here. I didn’t even make it past the lobby, so I can’t speak on the rooms but the service at the front desk was unacceptable. The man who attended to me in was extremely rude and dismissive from the start. I was told that the room I had reserved online was already sold, yet I was somehow charged a “no-show” fee for not having a credit card on file. That makes absolutely no sense almost no hotel allows you to reserve a room online without a card, and if that were the case, the reservation should never have been accepted in the first place. Wow! I never leave a review as im not a picky or difficult person anywhere i go. This hotel is THE dirtiest hotel i have EVER stayed at. Immediately upon entering the building it reeked of smoke and weed. The guy at the front desk was very serious and didn't even say hello, just straight up asked for ID and card. Didn't give me directions for the room or told me where ice machine and breakfast were. Not a super big deal but I work in hospitality and would never not greet my guests this way. We get to the room and Jesus christ it smelled so bad like pee and stale food? Idk it was such an odd smell. There was black mold on the shower ceiling.
