Hotel El Capitan

Super nostalgic and historic hotel. One of the "Gateway" hotels. The courtyard and the lobby are super cool! We ate here in the past and this time wanted to stay here. The room was cozy and the bed was comfy. Shower was nice too. Bathroom is small but not too small like an RV. This is a very old hotel. Our room had a nice view of Broadway Street and a small balcony to the courtyard. We got in town late and were very tired so we couldn't enjoy everything. But we did enjoy that bed!

Beautiful historic hotel in Van Horn, Texas. The courtyard in the front of the hotel and the lobby are charming. I upgraded to the King Room with a Courtyard, but I would opt for a regular room instead next time. The King Room with Courtyard was very small and we didn't use the courtyard in the room, although the bed was very comfortable. The on-site restaurant was good and there was live music when we were there on Sunday. Breakfast was included and was very good. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

This is a hidden gem! Great night sleep super clean, rooms are small because the historic hotel offers so many other relaxing areas to spend time. Our room had a desk with nice chair and another comfortable chair, microwave and frig. We noticed some rooms had courtyards. We sat by the fireplace. They have a lovely courtyard if weather permits. The restaurant is so much better than all the chain restaurants up and down the freeway. The bar offers many good choices. Free breakfast, good coffee. There’s a book nook, a gift shop, a puzzle table…. If you’re arriving early enough to relax, or enjoy history, this is the spot!

We absolutely loved this place! We stayed here both on our way to visit family and the trip back home (a half way point for us)and was recommended to us by family. It is such a charming place. Friendly, welcoming and accommodating. It is and old building that has been very well remodeled while still keeping its old west charm. Love that they are dog friendly. Rooms were very, very clean. Beds were ultra comfortable and quality bedding. We had a king bed suite type room. Dinner which was delicious. The ground prime rib cheeseburger was the best burger I've ever had and the fries were outstanding. Had an El Capitan Old Fashioned which was delicious. I absolutely loved the El Capitan!!! I was truly impressed upon arrival! The courtyard and lobby are both intriguing, and just seemed to implore me to relax and sit awhile. If I hadn't had time constraints, I would have stayed another night just to lounge around the fireplace and eat in the restaurant. Besides all that, it was a clean, comfortable place to hang my hat for the night and get a good breakfast in the morning.
