Hotel Defuniak

Do not be fooled by the photos. I chose this hotel because options in DeFuniak Springs are limited and mostly chains like Best Western or Super 8. I wanted something different and specifically booked this place because it advertised an on-site restaurant, which felt safer and more convenient as a woman traveling alone. When I arrived, there was no staff at all. My room key and a printed receipt with all my personal information were left out in the open on the front desk. No check-in, no explanation, no one to speak to. When I walked into the room, I was shocked to see an old, ghetto window AC unit hanging out of the window. What a great find in downtown DeFuniak, Florida! Old timey hotel that is a real blast from the past! Undated, clean and modern but with that "Western" old time charm. People are friendly and the place is very comfortable. The room is small and has a legitimate water closet but the lobby and "library" is so inviting and warm. Simply charming. This is a great place to rest and relax as we explore the charming downtown, DeFuniak Springs, and surrounding areas. We came to enjoy the fresh cold and clear spring waters from a hot Louisiana summer!

Ate at Cafe Nola and had the surf and turf. Very good! My 9 yr old daughter never finishes her meals, but she ate every last bite on her plate, so thats saying something!

We stayed for my man’s birthday, had dinner at Cafe Nola, and he was blown away. The elegant beauty and charm of this piece of history is so romantic and appreciated. It is not your typical corporate accommodation, and that makes it more special. It is a small town gem.

i came here for a one night last minute work trip not expecting terribly much, and i was absolutely blown out of the water! i loved the historic look of it all, the lobby is gorgeous and the room was great. chef ernie was an absolute delight along with everyone else who works at the restaurant! i would die for chef ernie's panko chicken and brussels sprouts. it's also in the cutest little historic downtown area! 10/10 would come back any time i have to be in the area.
