Holiday Inn Express & Suites Columbia-Fort Jackson by IHG

I was going to give this a 3-star until we had breakfast and slept in the beds. We came to meet with family halfway for a night. The room was good, not great, but the beds were probably the most comfortable I've slept in, in a long time. Great pillows too. The breakfast was way better than expected, tons of great hot options. We were really excited about the indoor pool since it's winter, but the pool was freezing (every child had blue lips). I don't know how "heated" pools work, but I felt like that missed the mark. The staff was perfectly friendly, which is great because a lot of the signs that indicated locations of amenities were incorrect 😅 overall, I would stay here again though

When I arrived at the hotel to see if they had availability, I was told that I needed to book through HotelPlanner.com so I did. HotelPlanner.com took my payment and i checked into the hotel. While checking in, I was told that they needed a card to hold for incidentals. The hotel charged me $131.09 as a hold. The hold actually became a charge and was never returned. I have contacted the hotel directly and was told there is nothing they can do. I contacted HotelPlanner.com and they stated that the hotel received their funds totaling $213.86. The hotel ended up receiving a total of $344.95 from my credit card charge and for the HotelPlanner.com funds. ||Seems like a scam yet, no one can help me get a return of the $131.09

I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in the Columbia Fort Jackson area, and while the staff was polite and the location was convenient, there were a few things future guests might want to be aware of. Some amenities weren’t fully operational during my visit, which made getting a bit of work done more challenging than expected. Also, access to certain areas of the hotel required extra steps that weren’t always convenient, such as a key card required for the restroom due to vagrants using it on the first floor of the lobby. The room itself was generally fine, though a few details could definitely use attention, especially for those who value a more polished stay. Extremely accessible to the interstate and a straight shot to downtown newberry. We visited the opera house that evening and it was maybe a 10-15 minute ride. The beds were extremely comfortable, Linens were excellent, front desk was nice and the breakfast was surprisingly good with a clean restaurant. We will definitely stay here again!

Positive: The location in proximity to the Fort. Negative: I was very disappointed in this experience. The staff was less than thrilled about helping with anything - from us not having enough towels or a trundle bed, to the public bathroom in the lobby being a red slimed mess, and the pancake maker being broken.
