Holiday Inn Express & Suites Athens by IHG

I stayed here on January 9, 2026. The front desk staff was welcoming and attentive. The location of the hotel was fine. I felt safe. The breakfast options were sufficient. This part of the review reflects my experience in room 237. The sleeping and lounging area of the room was nice. It was remodeled and clean. However, the room did not hold heat well. The bathroom needs to be renovated. When I took a shower, the water took a while to get warm. It never got hot. The water stayed warm for a few minutes and then went ice cold and then came out brown! That was traumatizing! I asked others in the group I travelled with about their experience and no one else had this issue. I won't be staying at this hotel again.

I was pleasantly surprised at this small town hotel. The breakfast was better than most hotels until 11am on weekends and 10am during the week, unlimited coffee at the ready, tea with hot water any time and fresh baked cookies in the late afternoon. The front desk clerks were always helpful with a smile and a story to tell. The gym and pool looked nice and clean although I didn't use either. Our room was big and the best part was the temperature and darkness for sleeping. If we came back to visit our Dad on this side of the world again we would definitely stay at this hotel. No reason to stay anywhere else.

One of the best places ever to stay! They are kind and out going! The front desk manager Ashley goes above and beyond always to make the stay the best! Close to everything too!

Positive: Great customer service with the front-line staff. The receptionist that checked us in was very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast hostess had phenomenal presence. She worked hard, and was cheerful and engaging. Negative: Franchise issues: A second area with a mirror in the room is needed. We had double occupancy, and sharing one mirror was not ideal. Pool area needed a deep clean. Gym and shared seating areas were tiny.

The service here was amazing! Every person smiles and speaks to you. We had a child get sick at 1 am and Ashlee immediately brought us everything we needed to clean up and make up a fresh bed. Kevin checked us in and he was so friendly and gave us all the details about the hotel. The pool area was clean and had plenty of towels. The servers at breakfast were very helpful and friendly. Everything was well stocked and clean in the breakfast area. We'll be back.
