I was welcomed in and informed that I had been upgraded to a suite for my overnight stay! The hotel is “out of date” - which is exactly what I loved about it. It’s a cozy landing spot in downtown Anchorage, with a friendly and caring staff. The hotel itself has a lot of personality - it was decorated for Halloween! There were historical photos of the building in the staircase that I enjoyed looking at. One of the reasons I chose to stay here was because of its history, surviving the Good Friday earthquake in 1964.||The breakfast buffet left a bit to be desired, but I’ll take an offering over nothing at all. Just even having coffee and some potatoes to kick off my day exploring the Anchorage area was a very welcome amenity. ||I only stayed at the Historic Anchorage Hotel one night after a l

We chose the Historic Anchorage Hotel to be closer to restaurants and take a break from chain hotels. We reserved a two bed suite (we had 3 people). It was lovely! Very spacious and decorated with charm. The staff was very nice, welcoming and very helpful. They went above and beyond to take care of our luggage for that we needed to store early in the morning the day we checked in. They even called a taxi for us to take us to the airport . We had lots of luggage. We enjoyed the free breakfast which included omelets, egg bites, two kinds of sausage, potatoes and pancakes, coffee, tea and orange juice. We had a wonderful stay. We highly recommend!

We stayed a few nights in the Historic Anchorage Hotel. Overall, a good stay. ||How were the staff? 10 out of 10 - All the staff were friendly and polite.||How clean was the hotel? 7 out of 10 - The common areas of the hotel were very clean. Bed linen and towels were spotless. Dust on the carpets in our room behind the chest of drawers. Generally okay.||How were the facilities? 8 out of 10 - Room was very comfortable with TV, plenty of hot water, coffee making, hairdryer, etc. No A/C - we regulated the room temperature by opening a window and using a supplied fan. For one of the oldest hotels in Alaska, the facilities were pretty good. The seating areas on the ground floor are great. The hotel bar area is lovely but no longer operates as a bar - you need to go out if you want to buy a beer

We enjoyed our stay here. There is a fine line between quaint and historic, versus old and musty. It definitely has old-school charm - the building itself, the spacious room (junior suite), and a really good breakfast. That said, the room was stuffy (no screens on windows or AC) and had no view (see photo), and the property has only basic amenities. Probably earned five stars on merits until check-out, when our $400+ did not even buy us a "how was your stay?" or "have a nice day" or "come see us again" or a simple "thank you" - nothing - a very odd disconnect from a property that positions itself around its charm.

This is really a very old historic hotel in a downtown location, easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping and the train station. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are old, very small and very tired. We defintely needed the fan. It is very basic and fine for one night (maybe not two). Breakfast was ok. As our intro to Alaska, it was interesting but we probably would have been more comfortable in one of the big hotels.
