Golden Gate Lodging

So, I went the Labour Day weekend by bus from Montreal. I slept well at the hotel and loved that the lake is right there. The place had more of a working class crowd; the room had a bit of an odour, not unpleasant, but differed in smell from some hotels. ||I arrived by Uber from the bus stop in a Plattsburgh mall. Although there is a private beach at the hotel, I found I preferred to walk the ca. 20 minutes to get to Plattsburgh City Beach which had concessions and more of a vibe with other bathers and a lifeguard. For those without a car like me, the only place to eat within 5 minutes walk is a McDonald’s, took me about 20 minutes to walk towards town to one of the next closest eating establishments, Mickey’s, a busy Italian restaurant with a friendly, fun energy. The room was clean and comfortable, but it was a bit over priced. For the price they should offer some kind of breakfast. The staff was excellent and very friendly. They changed our room from the second floor to the first floor upon request and we mistakenly left our computer at the motel, someone found it and returned it to the office and they kept it safe until we could return and pick it up.

Called in and booked a room with the help from Bob who was very professional and genuinely helpful. Got my confirmation number and was impressed by the customer service over the phone. Bob left me with an excellent first impression of Golden Gate Lodging! The stay was worth it at a great price too. The beach was serene; the room was very clean and had what I needed. I would revisit and recommend.

Room wasn't very clean. Cobwebs and little flies in the bathroom, cigarette under the cupboard. Bed was broad and sufficiently clean. Some renovations have been made in the room, e.g. new toilets and sinks, but overall this place looks pretty rundown. Receptionist was also quite unfriendly.

The room was very clean and looked even better than the photos. I don’t want to even give it a negative review because it felt safe and clean and the price is great, but I was not able to sleep at all because the window on the door that is mentioned in other reviews. I can sleep with some light on, but it was like a floodlight spotlighted directly on our faces all night and doesn’t have any kind of furnishing to even cover it. Please please PLEASE install a curtain over these! It’s actually a deal breaker like the light is egregious at night and I’m not picky about stuff like sound and light! I have a head cold and the bed is so soft and only furnished with 2 very thin pillows so I was essentially sleeping with my feet and body elevated and my head down so all in all I don’t feel rested an
