Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Cedar Rapids

I travel a ton for work, sometimes having to work for an entire week. This place is close to my work site and I thought I'd build up my platinum status with Bonvoy. Well, I guess I thought wrong. As another reviewer mentioned, your key card will stop working. I can confirm that and when you go to get it fixed, the front desk person will be annoyed and rude. lol. I worked hospitality in college. People get degrees in hospitality. The front desk person clearly only wanted that job for the pay check and nothing else. I checked out three days early and went to a competing chain. I also had to come back to Cedar Rapids the following week. I recommend anyone else avoid this Marriott. Centrally located, the service was very good, the sleeping accommodations were fine, the breakfast was of "normal" quality.|Unfortunately, we had an issue with the security light shining in our window, and I did not realize until the next morning that there was a 3rd set of curtains in front of (nearest the window) the other 2 sets. They were hidden and I had not spotted them.|Also, the toilet mechanism had a bad seal and kept cycling throughout our stay, about every 3-5 minutes. Annoying, but not a big issue. We closed the bathroom door and hardly heard it after that.

This hotel is absolutely the worst property with the Marriott brand on it I have never stayed in. - Trash and broken glass all over the parking lot and grounds - Keycards and exterior doors that stop working and lock you out in the cold - Front desk staff that are more interested in talking to their friends on their phone than actually doing their job - HVAC units that randomly set themselves to a different number - Chewed up wallpaper, furnishings - Plastic eggs in the breakfast area that have zero flavor at all - Hot tub that don't work and pool that are ice cold - It's 2025, get with the times and get a level 2 EV charger already - and on and on and on At one point in time I was top or second to top tier in Bonvoy, Hhonors, IHG at the same time. Fairfield by Marriot never disappoints. This location was exceptional! Breakfast was unique(kale feta egg white omelet) and many options. Everything was clean with great shampoo, soaps(lavender!) Bed was perfect!...but customer service was PHENOMENAL with Jessica checking me in. She went the extra mile to help me with my rewards. I stick with Fairfield when I travel(no doubt!)

Positive: The breakfast was good. The rooms clean enough with daily house keeping if wanted. The staff helpful when asked. Negative: Beds were uncomfortable. A few suggestions to staff when a picture is hung in the bathroom make sure to clean the glass on the picture (not unusual that water splashes would happen) and make sure to dust at least occasionally be hind objects.
