Econo Lodge Hopewell Near Fort Lee I-295

I have stayed at this Econo Lodge several times in the past during an extremely difficult period in my life when my father was critically ill and later passed away. While the hotel was never fancy, it was always decent, clean, and the employees were friendly. My mother even worked here as a housekeeper at one point, so I had generally positive experiences. Unfortunately, this most recent stay was completely different and very disappointing. I drove 14 hours to visit my mother, who is now seriously ill, and checked in very late at night/early morning. I spent the entire next day with her and returned to the hotel late that evening. Upon returning to the room, I noticed a very strong mold odor. The Econo Lodge I stayed at in Ruther Glen VA was a joke I took my family there for vacation. I got two hotels and my daughter did not feel safe. She had a two month old and a 4 yr old along with husband and the lock that pushes across was broken. She went to get the shower and the head of the shower fell off. The hotel was dirty. Me and my son and his girlfriend stayed in another room and it was dirty as well. My bed smelled like smoke. Had trouble breathing with the smell. He charged an additional $100.00 after I got there.I had already paid online the full amount would not give back money.. What a complete joke. The guy in the office was rude. Never again.

Good service, decent rooms, nice hot showers, ice machine works great, only problem I had was our refrigerator did not work and was told that we had to wait till the next day to get one that worked, so all the food that I had that needed to be refrigerated went bad. And also our TV was very staticy the entire time. Other then that the staff were very patient and kind.

The first thing we were met with were 2 men in the lobby, waiting to talk to the guy at the front desk about complaints they had. I had to disinfect everything with Lysol and disinfectant wipes. Didn't use the shower and if I were you I wouldn't. I didn't touch anything that I didn't have too. The guy at the front desk was horribly rude and ripped off my MIL. We gave him the name on the reservation and he acted like he didn't know what we were talking about. When he finally did admit we had a reservation, he got it wrong. We had to argue with him for 20 mins just to get our key cards. He then over charged us and when we said something he went to a different room and came back with a random $5 bill and random change. This is a Budget friendly hotel about a mile from Ft. Lee/Ft. Gregg Adams. My room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the actual housekeeping (of my room) was exceptional. I extended my initial stay. A few times I noticed that the common areas were less than tidy. The guest laundry is reasonably priced, but the dryer did take two cycles to dry anything more than a light load (exhaust vent clogged ?). Don't be alarmed, but if you are checking in late, or need assistance after 11:00 PM be prepared to call, or to knock loudly....again and again to wake up the desk clerk.
