DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel St. Louis - Westport

A trip back to the 1990s. Staying at the Doubletree Westport felt less like checking into a hotel and more like stepping into a lovingly preserved museum exhibit titled “Hospitality in the 90s.” It’s my own fault for forgetting that I stayed here 3 years ago and had a terrible experience. And since 2023, very few improvements have been made. I am a Lifetime Diamond Member who stays at so many Hilton hotels, so I often forget the poor hotels. If you’ve ever wondered what business travel felt like during the era of dial-up internet, old carpet, and stains on the walls and floor/baseboards, this place offers a remarkably authentic recreation. Positive: 💕 choc.chip cookies! What a great little delish treat. Hotel appeared clean, welcoming, good value. Negative: Found used mint green teeth flosser under desk counter area in room. Kind of concerned me about overall cleanliness & bedding but everything else seemed clean and very comfortable.

Overall the stay was pretty good. The rooms were clean but found it odd that it didn’t have a microwave. The bed was pretty comfy and bouncy. The staff seemed uninformative though. They were great about giving out warm cookies and water but I had no idea what the wifi password was the entire time. The fact that it didn’t have free breakfast. The breakfast cost $20 which is an insane amount. It was nice they had a bar in the lobby. The best part of this stay was the delicious warm cookies haha. They had a pool which was somewhat cold but the most disappointing aspect for a fancier hotel is no hot tub.

Hotel is run down and needs major renovations. The carpet is old, and the bathrooms aren’t the best, meaning they look old as well. The ceilings tend to show the wear and tear that the hotel has experienced. The ceiling in the indoor pool area is worn as well. I experienced a cold during this trip and am convinced that it’s from the poor hotel conditions. It also sucked that the restaurant wasn’t open, and the breakfast options are basic (not like other hotels that offer bacon, sausage links, scrambled eggs, freshly made waffles, oatmeal, etc.). Staff was friendly though, and cookies were nice.

Stayed for one night, won't be back. There are plenty of other accommodations in the area. Certainly the worst Doubletree I've ever stayed in Bedding was thin and coarse. Breakfast at the restaurant was pricey, everything was old and stale. Not enough batter for one waffle and they took 20 minutes to replenish it, but I was already leaving at that point. There was a breakfast buffet set up at the bar in the morning that we found and assumed was what the breakfast vouchers were for. After making our plates, my wife and I were rudely informed that the breakfast was for the sports team staying there and the restaurant was down the hall on the other end of the building.
