Courtyard by Marriott Columbia Downtown at USC

My husband, eight-year-old daughter, and I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Columbia last weekend. A few things to note: the hotel is downtown, so it can be fairly loud at night. The parking lot is also tight, especially if you have a larger vehicle.|On the positive side, there’s a nice outdoor area by the pool with a TV, couches and fireplace. Unfortunately, we were told the fireplace was out of gas and couldn’t be used. Other than the street noise, we were happy with our room. I even noticed that earplugs were provided for guests, which was a thoughtful touch.|The real issue began after checkout when we were charged a $500 fee for a broken television. We immediately asked for confirmation of the room number but were never given that information. My husband has called the manager sever

Friendly place! Everyone on the staff made it their job to make me feel welcome, with conversation, friendly questions and offering to do things for me before I asked ("I see you have a water bottle. Would you like me to fill it up?"). A genuine warm vibe like that is rare, and it doesn't just happen. Kudos to the management and the staff! The room was clean and well appointed, the lobby was bright and well lit. I was in town to do talks at the USC Darla Moore School of Business, so the location was PERFECT, about 5 minutes' walk door to door. I could also go for morning runs down to the river, which was beautiful, and there are many great downtown restaurants within walking distance. Overall my stay was great. The staff was awesome. The Décor of the lobby was warm and welcoming. We chose this hotel because it was minutes away from the Great Xscape Concert I attended. The room was clean and up to par, clean towels, and comfortable beds. Only thing I would want to see improvement on is the speed of the Wi-Fi and they should add microwaves to the rooms.

Update: The response from management to this review is so condescending. I literally still could have typed the same card number in if that was an issue because I had the virtual card to use. Also, the hotel was a recommendation from a co worker who used the company card for parking with no issue. Surprise surprise, she was white. I confirmed with her before I even wrote the review. That is where the accusation came from. I didn’t pull it out of thin air. Your staff was completely rude about the entire situation. Even the whole “check with your business” response from a GM on a public forum is insane. Again, will never stay here again. The hotel is not even worth the hassle. Exceptional stay on12/3!!! ALL staff we encountered were engaging and willing to go above and beyond with customer service. We checked in with Stephon who greeted us with warm welcome, he was efficient and hospitable, all the Bistro staff during happy hour(before concert)and morning staff for coffee were amazing. As we were departing waiting on elevator a housekeeper overheard us talking about a smudge on our suitcase and offered to wipe down with towel. ALL staff during our stay deserves gold stars all around!! The room was VERY clean and comfortable beds. Highly recommend staying this property. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Columbia!!
