Chisos Mining Co. Motel

With a convenient location nearby Big Bend National Park, Big Bend State Park, and Terlingua Ghost Town, Chisos Mining Co. Motel is a cozy place to stay for a few nights! This place was founded by two women in the 20th century and has been running it since. There are grocery stores and delectable restaurants close by to the hotel as well! The couple who checked us into our room were very sweet and were more than happy to tell us about the area and the great places nearby to visit. They also have a fun labyrinth to check out on their grounds (hint: check out at sunrise or sunset). The low light also allows for clear stargazing just a few feet away from the room! Update: was issued a refund. Thanks for rectifying the situation! Unfortunately had a bad experience here. I arrived after the office had closed, so I found my key in an envelope taped to the door. So far so good, however when I got in the room it was clear that it had not been cleaned. The bedsheets were a mess, towels were on the floor, and there was garbage in the trash can. (see photos) This must have been a mistake, possibly because I booked on the same day. I emailed them to ask for a partial refund and got no response. I think it would be a cute little place, if a bit rustic, if not for the uncleaned room and lack of response... but unfortunately that makes this a place I cannot recommend at all. The photos are how the place looked when I arrived.

The motel staff were extremly kind and informative right off the bat. They offered maps to us and recommendations on places in the area of things to check out as well as restaurants to dine at. The shop at the check in point was very cute with fossils, stones, and local crafts for purchase if you wanted. Hospitality 10/10||Now to the room. The room/motel offers very few amenities, and what they do offer is more of the bare minimum. Bring as much of your own provisions that you can if you're willing to stay here. Your basically give a bed, a/c, and a worn down bathroom. ||There is no fridge. Bring shelf-stable food or a cooler. This gem is eclectic, convenient and comfortable and the best price in town. The aesthetic is a retro vibe with each room unique in art and kitschy décor. It is unpretentious but is more than ample in comfort: clean sheets, towels, hot water and strong heat/ac. They even have towels for “gear” or messy tasks. Each room has a porch with an awe inspiring view of the famous Big Bend sky. In terms of location, it is under 10 minutes to the National Park and 30 minutes to Bid Bend Ranch State Park. It is also a 2 minute drive off the main drag, allowing for much less traffic and noise during the stay. We stayed at 36 CLIFF Dwelling. Such an blast. You can watch the sunset directly from this condo. Location itself is very good. Close to Big Bend and to Terlingua. Very clean, the kitchen very well equipped, staff is very kind, great location. Awesome.
