The good - Beautiful location north east of Decorah, about 20 minutes from town. There is plenty of room for everyone to spread out, we went with a family of 16. The house was well stocked with towels, pillows, sheets, and kitchen utensils, as well as 2 grills and extra LP tanks. Lots of chairs for outside seating as well as indoor. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, firepit, and fishing in canoe creek. There is a mowed trail to the creek and the bridge was recently closed (March 2025) so we spent time fishing off of it. Made a couple easy trips to Decorah - Dunnings Springs, Brewery and shopping, the Fish Hatchery and Pulpit Rock. The bad - Could use new sheets, mattresses on several of the beds, new towels. Our family stayed here recently and were pretty disappointed. There is lots of potential but it's a very rundown property. I don't think this house would even pass a house inspection. It is also very dirty. Random crumbs on the floor, dead (and alive) insects, animal hair(?).. We felt so dirty staying here had to go out and buy our own towels and our own bed sheets. We are convinced this property was not cleaned prior to arrival but of course we paid a cleaning fee through the VRBO. Also, the extra fridge in the kitchen made a horrendous loud noise. The knives were dull and basically nonfunctional. Too many negatives to mention. I feel this property could be turned around if the owners put in the work, but it doesn't seem like they are interested in doing this.

Great location and lots of potential but really needs some attention. Upstairs shower/bath doesn't work. The weeds in the yard need taken care of. The hot tub wasn't properly maintained...too much chemical! No extra toilet paper at all. One extra full roll per each bathroom. This house sleeps 23 total but thankfully there was only six of us or we would have ran out for sure. The sitting and kitchen space was nice. Fire pit and pond was nice to have available but bring your own fishing stuff and wood. Some TLC would go a long way.

It took me a year to write this, if that gives you an idea on how terrible this visit was. Where do I begin? We rented this cabin for 2 days at the beginning of August 2022 for a 50th anniversary party.  Prior to arriving, we attempted to reach the property management company several times, they stated they never received any messages.  Upon arrival, the door was unlocked, and we're not convinced it was even cleaned prior to us arriving. Overall, the location is beautiful, and it is very serene. Now - the biggest issue.  This property is listed on multiple websites for rental.  And each website states something different.  Now, if you look today, they may all match and say the same thing.  However, when it was booked, through VRBO, things were listed very differently.  And, Monday when

Great property in a beautiful scenic location. This rustic home was located by canoe creek and had a stock pond with bass, blue gill and catfish. Very clean home. Love that they also have other properties in NE Iowa to choose from. I will be returning this summer.
