Candlewood Suites Athens by IHG

Positive: The staff were very nice…. So nice it was hard to complain, but I would never recommend this hotel or stay here again. Negative: The a/c was loud, the refrigerator was malfunctioning and making noise all night. Beds were smaller than a queen and not comfortable.

I've actually had 3 great stays here while on business trips. I make specific room requests, and the staff has come through every time with those requests! That means so much to me, since a night of restlessness can negatively affect me the next day. Kim Stratman, the General Manager, even hand wrote me a wonderful card, thanking me for my membership and stay, being considerate enough to reserve my favorite room, and offered to help me should I need anything more! What else can I say? She goes above and beyond and is truly amazing! I still have the card on my desk at home!

One word: Unbelievable. First, I understand hotels in the Athens area raise their prices on game days. However, I don’t understand paying $300 for a room that smells like a mix of mold, mildew, and dust. The smell hits you once you pass the check in desk as the hallway carpets smell slightly off putting. When I opened my door I gasped at how badly it smelled. The front desk woman who helped was very kind and got us a new room, which again had the same smell and a dehumidifier? Also both ends of the hotel have tarps so I’m assuming some water damage took place? I understand things like that are out of the hotels control but we should not charge hundreds of dollars for motel quality (and let people know what happened/ what is going on so they can make decisions based on the now). I recently had the pleasure of staying at Candlewood Suites Athens, and I can’t say enough wonderful things about the staff. From the moment I arrived, I felt warmly welcomed and genuinely valued. Every team member I encountered went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and memorable. The front desk staff were exceptionally helpful and efficient, swiftly checking me in and providing great recommendations for local activities and dining options. Housekeeping did an impeccable job each day, keeping my room spotless and well-stocked with fresh towels and amenities. They even took note of my personal preferences, which was a delightful touch! Staff were great but we had to switch rooms 4 times because they smelled like mildew and mold which is crazy because I’ve read reviews from 2 years ago saying the same thing seems to me like they don’t want to fix it
