Customer Reviews
My daughter, dog, and I stayed here and it was very nice. It is in a country neighborhood and was really great for us compared to a traditional campground with lots of people. Lots to do in the area. Close to town and Custer State Park. We enjoyed ice cream at Horatio's, riding an ATV, swimming at Legion Lake, pretty drives, and more.
I cannot say enough fabulous things about Tauering Pines and Cathy (owner). This is our 2nd time staying with our horses here! The stalls and turnout for your horses are amazing. Our group has stayed in the cabin and also rented the loft area. Both areas are fantastic. Our favorite place to hang out is in the outdoor kitchen area where we have our morning coffee amongst the lounge chairs and then in the evening creating fabulous wood-fired pizza in the outdoor pizza oven! Cathy is the friendliest host who will go above and beyond to make your stay as memorable as possible! We WILL RETURN FOR SURE!!!
We stumbled upon The Custer Cutoff while on a Campervan trip with our young family and wanting a place to stay near Custer State Park. The location right outside the park is perfect and it is also near the town of Custer. Kathy has put a lot of effort into making a special place for travelers to feel comfortable and make it easy to explore and/or relax. The highlight was an outdoor bath while looking at the stars along with all the nice amenities like a communal kitchen, outdoor spaces and showers. Thank you for a great experience.
wow! Our group stayed for 8 amazing days and each day was awesome. The horse trails were in great shape and the host was fantastic. We had a great place to fix meals/drinks. Coffee every morning.... very nice covered stalls and plenty of pasture for grazing. After all the chores were done we enjoyed a hot tub with the view of open pasture and mountains. Definitely going back! Thank you Kathy.
There is a reason the entire city of Custer South Dakota calles this woman "Crazy Cathy" Do not go there if you think you will have peace and relaxation. Definitely NOT Dog friendly. She does not like dogs. Cathy will be non-stop in your face and you cannot get any peace and quiet. There are many other wonderful places to stay in the Black Hills. I recommend staying elsewhere
