Bluebird Cottage Inn

My partner and I stayed here for my birthday and had an excellent time. The rooms were cozy, clean and fit the Idyllwild vibe. Service was wonderful and they were very friendly. Location was just a minute or two drive into town which was very convenient and there was a very pretty view. Not to mention it was a very affordable stay.

So this operation is a combo of freestanding cabins, some duplex cabins, and some small motel units. Grounds are forest floor (no special landscaping). We stayed in the cabin "Owl", which turned out to be closest to the highway, so highway noise was noticeable (but does drop down pretty low late at night). Other rooms/cabins are below the highway and probably have less road noise (Meadowlark, Thrush, and Warbler being probably farthest from the noise). Cabin was fine and quite roomy; a few spots could use some minor repairs (there were some cracks in the plastic shower/bath wall, a number of buildings could use a new coat of paint). The service was fantastic, the front staff desk are very accommodating and ensure guests are well taken care of. The room was exactly as anticipated and fit our needs. I also love that they had dvds you could “rent” (for free!) to watch in your room.

We’ve stayed here at BCI a few times. It’s conveniently located next to BSA Camp Emerson where my sons have Scout activities. The owner is great and these cabins/units have some cool vibes. This time, we stayed in Bluebird Cabin last week of Dec 2025; weather - heavy rain. Pros: located about a mile from DT Idyllwild. Lots of different cabins/units to choose from for your taste. Cons: I’ve brought this up to the lady at the front desk last time we were here but as I re-read through the Google/trip advisor comments, I realized this is a persistent issue. The soap/shampoo dispensers in the bathroom are always empty or broken. This is the 3rd stay in a row for us that shampoo was empty and soap dispenser broken. Overall, this is a decent place to stay. The cabins are not very updated. The carpet was torn in spots and just had a rustic but old vibe to it. We stayed in the biggest cabin that sleeps 8. The beds were hard (which my husband loved but i did not). The shower is not made for tall people (which half my family is). There were ants in the bathroom floor. We didn't really use the kitchen much but the appliances did seem to be working. Had no issues with the AC, which was nice because it was 90 degrees that weekend. We rented an extra cabin for one night for my son and his new wife (it was their wedding weekend) and the front desk upgraded us to a bigger cabin that was right next to ours which was very nice of them.
