Baranof Downtown, BW Signature Collection

We are currently staying at this hotel in Juneau and unfortunately the biggest issue here is the noise. The building is old and clearly needs renovation. The walls feel paper-thin — you can hear everything from neighboring rooms: snoring, TVs, conversations, bathroom noises. In our first room on the 4th floor, we couldn’t sleep because the guest next door was snoring extremely loudly. At 6 AM we woke up again when he turned on the TV — it sounded like it was inside our room. We went to the front desk to request a room change. At first, they said nothing could be done. After a long discussion with the manager (who unfortunately had difficulty understanding what we were asking for), we were finally moved. However, the second room was just as noisy — if not worse. I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights during a work conference in a King Suite room. I would recommend this room as it was wonderful. It was clean, bed was comfy and view was fantastic! The rooms don't have air conditioning (it is Alaska), you just open the windows and it cools down fast. The heaters were turned off but I didn't need them. ||This hotel is old and it has it's quirks. Elevators are slow, halls are narrow, rooms are dated but clean. Had breakfast three mornings in restaurant. It had basic breakfast items and was very good. The line at check-in was rather long but the front desk workers were very friendly. In fact, everyone was friendly: restaurant workers, maids, concierge staff. || It's location is great. Positive: Location, location location. Also the hotel has nice amenities like the fitness center and the on site breakfast restaurant. Comfortable place to stay. Negative: Common areas could be cleaner.

The rooms are very old and the description of the hotel is misleading. Many of the things listed are simply not true. The only thing this place offers is a room to sleep in, nothing more. My room is extremely cold while the outside temperature is -10°C. I reported this to the staff, but the only solution they offered was an extra blanket. They did not change my room and did not provide a heater. This is unacceptable because a hotel room should at least provide basic comfort and proper heating, especially in such cold weather.

Rooms are old and small. It's a cramped fit but managable. Location is right in the heart of downtown. The main drawback is that the walls are extremely thin. Even with ear plugs you can hear everything from the next room. Oddly street noise is minimal. Usually stay elsewhere during my trips to Juneau, will not be returning here and am considering moving during this trip in order to get some rest. I value quiet and privacy.
