AmericInn by Wyndham Tofte Near Lake Superior

Stayed at the the AmericInn by Wyndham in the town of Tofte Mn,near Duluth/Superior last summer to attend the wedding of my young niece. Literally across the street from Lake Superior. Clean rooms were on the small side, with mini fridge w/ sm freezer. The TV remote control was almost encased, in a Ziploc bag with no explanation: same thing in another family members room down the hall. Maybe they can get sticky🤔🤔. Nice motel, seemed busy, as motels go. Right across parking lot was huge gas station/ convenience/ bait store that also sold firewood, all kinds of munchies, but unfortunately... at touristy high prices. Nice place, I'd stay there again if I had the need.

Location of this hotel is great. The lobby was cutely decorated for Christmas and the room was clean and comfortable. The noise from the hallway was bad the first night of our stay, so bad I had to complain about the loud drunks hanging out in the hallway, but the second night was quite. The staff members are all friendly and they work hard to please their guests. They are in the middle of some room renovations so that's great. The only thing that was really bad was the chlorine in the pool area; as soon as you walk in the chemicals hit your eyes and throat. We couldn't stay in the pool for more than 15 minutes and others in the pool were talking about the same. We took our grand children specifically to this hotel because they love to swim so it was a bummer we were unable to enjoy

Positive: The Hotel was updated and clean. Negative: The food in the breakfast area wasn't very fresh. The hot food was cold.

Our favorite option for staying in Lutsen/Grand Marais. Most affirdable option and only 15 min from Grand Marais. Trust me... Stay in the King Suite with the whirlpool! Staff is always so nice. Check in is super smooth. View is beautiful in the morning! Breakfast has a great selection.

I'd say this hotel is about 3.5 stars. It was not nearly as nice as the AmericInn we'd stayed the previous night in a different locale (at less than half the rate in Tofte!) but a decent place to lay your head. Not sure if it is lack of staff or not wanting to invest the money to keep it up. The entire place--staff and building--just seemed sad and tired. The decor throughout the hotel was rather strange, weird-looking images of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Trying to build on the "America" theme perhaps? The breakfast was passable, a bare minimim basic hotel breakfast. What surprised me was how dirty many of the windows were, especially in the pool area.
