Alder Inn

Such a great stay. The room was big, clean, very reasonable for the price! The location was also perfect for walking to local cafes or the beach, as well as a quick drive to Heavenly for a day of snow activities. Sam was super responsive and easy to get a hold of. Really appreciated the late checkout when requested. Definitely will come back!

No management on site. They are in the Bay Area. No TV remote for 2 days ( we leave it on when we leave the room). Not vacuumed on arrival. Not at all maintained. Rotting baseboards and doors. Holes in the wall where fixtures had been replaced. Pictures and shelves not level. No knob on the sink. Im sure the owners have not been here. For the price I’m sure the owner wouldn’t let their family stay there. Sent an email. No reply.

The location is good and check in was easy but there are zero amenities and the rooms are ugly and the beds are uncomfortable. No ice machine. Keurig but no pods. No tea, nothing. The beds were wildly uncomfortable. The bathroom was freezing at all times. When we arrived, they had set the temperature to 80 degrees! And the bathroom was still cold even though the rest of the room was boiling. We heard every foot step upstairs. The parking lot doesn't have any clear markings so people parked all sorts of crazy and there's not enough parking spots for all the rooms, so I expect this place rarely sells out. This place is good for people who don't really care about having anything nice and just need a place to sleep after skiing.

Close to food and drinks? Yes. Close to good coffee? Yes. Close to the ski resort? Yes. Clean and cute and with great staff? Also yes! Sam and his team always go above and beyond for their guests and I love staying at their properties. Would absolutely recommend for anyone looking for a great spot to stay in South Lake! An unexpected gem! Comfortable, quiet, and amazing staff. We happened to catch a small deal, but even still, Alder Inn was totally affordable for what we got and the location. Lodging can be hit or miss, with some spots showing wear and tear from a stream of snow chasers. Alder Inn clearly takes care of its property. The check in was so simple and seamless, and the staff were helpful and prompt in their communication. Definitely staying here next time.
