ABR Trails Foundation

The best nordic skiing you will ever do in your life. 92 km of beautiful, extremely well-marked trails, through serene woods and fields. Nice, clean warming hut, rentals and changing rooms. All staff were lovely and helpful. A real gem that I will definitely come back to next year!

Stayed in Minocqua but drove to ABR for skiing. It was well worth the 1 hour drive! A lot more snow, the trails that are expertly groomed and clearly marked, and great service - all at a very reasonable price. We went on several easy trails; our favorite was the River Trail - very scenic. Highly recommend ABR Active Backwoods Retreat to anyone looking for a cross-country ski place in Midwest.

Excellent skiing destination! Skied about 40 km at ABR, with several laps on the interior trails plus Hautanen Highlands and Ridge Runner. Firm skating deck throughout, despite a major snowstorm two days ago. Your grooming work has always been amazing and remains at the highest level. Thanks for your hard work and dedication!

Always a joy and amazing skiing every time we head there. With this years snow I've been at ABR a lot, not that I'm complaining because the classic trails are amazing. For sure a must go to if you can, the staff is great, grooming is excellent and trails are a blast to ski on! Can't wait for my next stop up there!

This was our 6th trip up to ABR staying in the rustic cabins, and it is always something we look forward to every year! A huge thank you to Eric and Angela for their hospitality and for sharing their beautiful trails with everyone. Thank you ABR crew - you're the best!
