WoodSpring Suites Richmond Airport

My stays overall in this area have been more positive. The staff is professional from what I've noted when I'm in the lobby area. And the guest are cordial most respectfully engage you with a "hello" or other form of greeting depending on the time of day.My only qualm thus far is, "I haven't stayed a full week yet to cook." But I plan to because I think I get the full affect of the extended stay. Otherwise, it's convenient only one hiccup when the shower water wasn't hot when I was ready to shower. But the staff the rooms the location and the fact it did get hot later...it's a minor thing. So yes this place is amazing. One of the more unpleasant stays I've experienced. On paper everything about this property sounds fine but once you get there and check in you cannot wait to check out. My room was grungy and smelled like your chain smoking aunt's car (despite supposedly being non-smoking). And while it might have come with a fridge and microwave, I would have preferred basic toiletries to be able to shower or toilet paper of better quality than the see-through one you get in airports. You also don't get any of the amenities you would expect when a room comes with a kitchenette--no plates, cutlery, or even a single glass to drink water from (you do get a disposable plastic cup in the bathroom that you can choose to use for your toothbrush or as a drinking vessel). I stayed two nights at this hotel. Check in was easy. The building is pretty new, very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Access beyond the lobby requires a room key, even to use the elevator. This made me feel quite safe. I had an accessible room. It was located right by the elevator. It was very spacious. The clothes bars were lower, the microwave lower, the shower was a roll in with lots of grab bars, a seat that folded down when in use, a regular shower head and a handheld one. The towel bars were lower, the sinks accommodated a wheelchair. There was enough room around the bed to navigate a wheelchair as well. Overall, the property is nice, but there were a few issues. The shower curtain had mold, which was disappointing. Before my stay, I called ahead to ask about the sidewalk and parking. I was told everything was clear, but that was not the case. While I understand icy conditions happen, other nearby places made an effort to salt and clear their areas. Unfortunately, the parking lot and sidewalks were not properly maintained. I would have stayed a few more nights, but with more bad weather coming, the state of the parking lot was a dealbreaker. On the positive side, the location is convenient for walking to stores and restaurants, which I really liked. Just be aware that staff and guests were often outside smoking by the entrance.
