Stayed at winding river campground in Exeter NH this past weekend. Was a little nervous after reading some poor reviews on google recently. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. First some reviews complained the river was muddy and not good for kayaking and it was dusty. The area is in a drought. The campground has no control over that. The roads are dirt - dust should be expected. The area we stayed in had beautiful slightly wooded sites on the river that seemed to be a good size. (We’ve certainly seen plenty of places with smaller sites.) The tent area did seem to have small cramped sites. Another review said the bath houses were dirty. I did not find this to be the case. They were actively being cleaned and never felt dirty. They are rustic but clean. Some of the seasonal sites look
Me and my family booked a camp site for 8/8/25-8/10/25. Well let me tell you this campground was awful when we checked in the two ladies where more interested in looking and talking about the pickles she just made it took one of the other employees to get them to check me in. The campground is very dusty due to the dirt road that isn’t maintained lots of pot holes in the road. We got to our tent site to find all of the sites are really small uneven and rocky not to say you don’t have any privacy from the other campsites due to they are all right on top of each other. Now they have a strike quite hours from 10:30pm to 8:30am we’ll let me tell you they don’t enforce that. It was so load and noisy that we couldn’t sleep. It was so bad that at 3:30am me and my family packed up our campsite and
I have been a seasonal camper here for a few years and we have changed management each year. This new management “Modern America” has definitely completely ruined this campground. Today, which is Labor Day weekend, the manager Brandy and her boyfriend kicked out 2 seasonal members and was unable to give a valid reason to either as to why. The manager then called the police and they even told the manager she needs to get her affairs in order before kicking out a seasonal. One of these seasonals runs the majority of the activities and because of this kicking out, there was no karaoke or dance party (as was advertised for tonight’s activities) and the manager did not post anything regarding the canceling of the activities. As a result, there were numerous transient campers waiting at the pavi
This campground has the potential to be great, but it's disorganized. The bathrooms don't have shower doors, just a curtain, all it’s dirty and there's no security whatsoever! The store that's open has no merchandise and empty shelves. The after-hours phone doesn't work, and we had to deal with a lot of noise from a nearby campsite until 2 a.m. I really didn't feel safe there. The pool was super crowded, with people smoking and drinking alcohol there. It's a place with no rules. They exist on paper, but in practice, they don't enforce anything!
I think it would be unfair to tank this review just because this place wasn't what I want, but man I was really hoping for a different vibe. This place is NOT a serene camping experience, it's party camping. Loud, crowded, very close together spots, music and open drinking everywhere you look. I was hoping for a quiet night by the fire and that wasn't what I got, which is fair, doesn't always work out, but it's a shame. Not the fault of the property, but kids were running around completely unsupervised. Two ran through the guy lines holding up my rain fly (my tent was fairly far off the street which means they ran directly through my site) and didn't stop to apologize. Kids will ride their bikes directly at your car. Not a bad place and very kind staff but just know what you're walking in
