Way North Motel & Cabins

I have spent many a nights at this family run motel. Some in rooms, some in cabins and some in the corner 1 bedroom apartment. This place is kinda of like a home away from home. It is exactly as the other 5 star rater said. It is a clean bed, on the water, with a dock, allows pets family run kind of place. It is not meant to be fancy or full of frills, but it IS a well run place to get a very reasonably priced clean room in which to spend some quality outdoor time with my family (husband and 2 small dogs). We have even brought extended family and friends on occasion. I have been going here for around 10 years I would say and have visited all four seasons of the year. If what I have described is what you are looking for give them a try.

I admit, I'm mostly writing this because I feel the one star person was unnecessarily harsh. And possibly trying to get away with something, since how many people are staying is a pretty standard question. But I digress. This family-run motel caters mostly to people who come to Houghton Lake to boat and fish. Their clients want a clean bed at a good price, and this is what they get. Amenities aren't things like jacuzzis and chocolate on the pillows, they're things like a private boat launch and dock right off the back of the motel. Rent a cabin, and you'll even have a kitchen to clean and cook your catch for dinner. They also take pets, so bring your dog. And for the record. I've stayed here several times and have never had a problem with rudeness.

Wish I could give 0 stars, because the place doesn't even deserve one. Absolutely ridiculous. Called to hold 2 rooms for a weekend, and then the day we were coming we called a few hours ahead just to be sure they were still held. They would not hold the rooms without giving your credit card information over the phone, when they do not actually accept credit cards. We spoke on the phone with someone who said they were held, drove 2 hours just to find we had no rooms and that "no one ever took a reservation." Completely unprofessional. To add on to that, the office alone smelt TERRIBLE. Can't imagine what the rooms look like. Would not recommend this place whatsoever, waste of time. DO NOT come here.

New owners are diligently working hard on improvements and are quiet excellent people! Many upgrades already have been made with more to come, off to a great start!👍🏻

On quiet canal so you can dock your boat off the lake but still have quick access to the lake. Absolutely love it here.
