What makes this historical lodge and cabins such an ideal place is it's location on beautiful Johnson Creek--a major spawning area for Chinook Salmon--a tributary of the South Fork of the Salmon River. The high ridge to the east is the western border of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area--the largest in the continental U.S. The lodge was built in 1927 and was Cox's Dude Range until 1990 when the present owners bought the property. We found our stay there extremely pleasant and the owners were very helpful. Our cabins were comfortable and had everything we needed for cooking. Guests can use the comfortable lodge great-room with a fireplace and wifi. The mountain town of Yellow Pine was about 20 minutes away where we purchased supplies and had a number of our meals as

My husband and I had a wonderful stay in 1 of the 4 cabins at Wapiti Meadow Ranch. The area is remarkable with access to hiking, fishing and mountain biking. There are numerous trails to enjoy from easy wanders along lovely Johnson creek (as big as a river) to strenuous hikes with views into the "River of No Return Wilderness" and the Sawtooth mountains. Mountain biking is also enjoyable on the dirt roads in the area. We did not come equipped for fishing, but plan to return next year for this.|| The ranch setting is amazing with huge meadows, aspens, pines and multiple creeks and springs. Each evening elk and deer would wander down into the meadows and could be viewed while sitting on our porch. Tons of wildflowers in the meadows and on the hikes in the forest, and oh so quiet!||Our cabin

Wapiti Meadow Ranch was a wonderful experience. It is located in a remote part of Idaho, no city lights here. We came to fly fish and that we did. We spoke with Diana the owner to book our trip and she set us up a package to do speciffically what we wanted to do as far as the fishing goes. There are guided and unguided options. Our guide took us to several different spots to fish during our week long trip. We fished rivers and lakes, and the trip to the middle fork of the Slamon river was the best part. There are about three or four rivers and a few lakes to fish within a short drive of the ranch. We cought rainbows, cut throught, and some giant Bull trout, great fishing all week. The food was excelent, the fresh morel mushrooms were amazing. Cabins are cozy with plenty of

Idaho's Primitive Area is unique: few roads penetrate it; most access is by horse, airplane or boat. But Wapiti Meadows Ranch in a pristine valley along Johnson Creek near Yellowpine is accessible by road and by airstrip. Four well appointed cabins near a main lodge offer access to fishing, hunting, hiking, a horse barn, or comfortable chairs for reading in the middle of rugged mountains adjacent to hundreds of miles of trails. Each cabin has a fully-equipped kitchen with barbecue grill outside, electric heat and a wood stove, plenty of utensils and serving room. There are one and two-bedroom cabins. Previously an Orvis destination, Wapiti still features one of the best trout fishing destinations in Idaho. Diana and Barry, the hosts, are friendly and helpful.

My sisters, neices and mother (9 of us) spent 7 nights at Wapiti for a family reunion. I booked this trip for my family online after reviewing the web site and brochure that was mailed to me. I spoke to the owner on the phone who assured me that although this is listed as a "dude ranch" that we would be accomodated and have a relaxing great vacation. This trip was paid for in advance, including tips/service charge for the staff totalling to over $15,000.00 for the week. For that, half of us had to travel over 1/2 mile to transport our own drinking water in our own containers back and forth to the luxury suites in weather that was 80-90 degrees all week at an altitude of over 5,000 feet. This was because we were told that the water was unsuitable to drink in the suites where 5 of us w
