von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort

A great experience if you like cross country skiing or snow shoeing, or want to stay near Stowe Mountain. A historic building from the von Trapp family of movie fame, with stories and pictures of the actual family all over. That added significant interest to the property. It looks "historic" (or some might call "dated"), from the 1950s to early 1970's, but everything is immaculately clean, comfortable and well maintained, so that adds to the character. Extensive cross country and snow shoe trails right out the door (beware that only one cross country trail is "green circle," the others and more challenging). Excellent ski instruction. Breakfast buffet is excellent, dinner is very good but not great, and a somewhat limited menu that changes little each night. Coffee and cookies are served

Positive: The lodge was the cleanest hotel I've stayed at. The pool was the cleanest I've swam in. Negative: I didn't care for the pillows, they were too soft/flat.

Wow, an amazing find. I can’t believe I never knew about this place. It’s the perfect family resort and we came for a sisters weekend and it was perfect as well. I learned how to cross country ski … well how to cross country walk would be more like it. The staff is really well trained, very friendly. The restaurant was great. the views and properties spectacular… Take the tour to see the cows. Highly recommend for an all around perfect vacation.

First time staying at the von Trapp Family Lodge but it won't be the last. We had a larger group so we got two rooms which were very comfortable, clean, and spacious. The lodge itself feels like it takes you back in time and is so interesting to learn about the family. My two kids loved the activity center and the indoor pool, we all enjoyed the hot tub too! Afternoon tea and cookies was a such a nice touch too! We didn't eat at the restaurant, although the menu looked so good, but we ate some delicious breakfast sandwiches at the kaffeehaus just down the road. We all had a great couple days!

We stayed at a family members house down the road but wanted to see this famous lodge and try the food at the brewery before we headed home. The staff were very friendly and explained where we could go. There is a great area downstairs from lobby with pictures of the family. The views of the mountains are incredible! Unfortunately, the brewery was packed, (had almost a 2 hour wait) so we did not get to eat there. We will try again in the future!
