Useppa Island is a truly unique Old Florida (in the very best of ways) style private, members-only island. A new investor group has recently purchased the island, and extraordinary updates and upgrades to infrastructure and facilities are making it one of THE most incredible IYKYK destinations in Florida.
Of course it was fun to visit a private island, however there was a lot to be desired. The dining area and surrounding grounds just looked really run down. My expectations were considerably higher. Being a guest of a member and having looked at the online rates my expectations would not have been met and are much higher. The croquet field was brown and not maintained at all, the chess board that you see online was knocked over and should probably be pulled out. The pool and surrounding area should feel much more glamorous. The interior was as it should be. It's old, and nostalgic of old Florida, I get that, but attention to details is sorely being missed here. The turtles wandering around were cute and the food was just fine. I'm sure a little investment would go a long way in making a mor
We got married here in May of 2015 and Hillary was amazing. I loved the place. The rooms have ol' Florida flair. All of my wedding guests also loved the place. Hillary m I ved mountains to accommodate us and I would highly recommended.
Very small private little island with historic significant ties to the Calusa Indians; CIA planning of the Bay of Pigs; people of wealth going fishing for tarpon and seclusion. It's had a few owners, all wanting to make it a semi-private retreat for well healed friends and investors. Today, it's more a forgotten step child which will either find new members of wealth/ investors who want to see it return to form of it's original inclusive charm, or it will continue to decay. About 1/2 mile away is a smaller much more vibrant little island called Cabbage Key which has a fabulous restaurant and people flock to it. There is no hotel, museum ...nothing but the restaurant, walking paths and a very few small rental cabins. Both can only be reached by boat, or ferry from Captiva Island. Y
Beautiful island and delicious food, but the rooms in the inn could use a refurbishment. The rooms smell musty and stains were visible throughout the rooms and bathrooms. Hilary Fales, the events coordinator, is the worst events coordinator I have ever interacted with. She is unprofessional, rash, abrasive, does not return phone calls or emails in a timely manner (at times weeks with no response), is not detail oriented (she lacks follow through) and she is lazy. If you are planning an event on Useppa Island, I would reconsider unless you are willing to have a very stressful planning experience and event day due to Hilary's lack of strength's required for her position.
