We came here through a cruise from Captiva Island||The Collier House is very cool in it's architecture and history, however a few facts:|1. Service was VERY SLOW - it took almost all of our limited time on the island for our meal.|2. Bartender made THE WORST cocktails. All of us had to send our cocktails back. Stick to beer or wine.|3. Price of meals is EXPENSIVE. A very basic fish sandwich for $28? C'mon.|4. Forgotten items - One member of our party's meal was given to another guest (not in our party), forgotten, then when asked about the status, had it re-made but not to what was ordered. Should have been adjusted on our check but was not. Even after voicing our dis-satisfaction.|5. Food was not cooked properly. And came out cold.|6. Automatic gratuity is added to all checks, as an FYI.|

The service was absolutely terrible. We waited over 45 minutes to get our food and about that long for the check. The food was okay however there was no salt, pepper, etc. on the table. We couldn’t get the waiters attention for more drinks, etc. The woman who runs the museum was very rude. She didn’t answer one of our questions in a nice manner and she gave us a look of disgust when we didn’t pay the suggested donation. We had less than 10 minutes to get through the museum a donation wasn’t warranted.

Cruise to the Island was wonderful, once there we had a quick tour which was over by 12 so we were told we could go over to the Inn for lunch. We told quite rudely that our food service was at 12:45. So we waited 45 minutes to sit for lunch, only to not receive our food until 1:30 at which time, we declined the food because our boat left at 1:45. So much for a leisurely lunch. Super disappointed, for a private island restaurant I would have expected more.

We were there on two evenings, the first visit was a rather unpleasant experience the second was better.|The first evening we ordered prime ribs for the gents and fish for the ladies. The side salads came earlier but without dressing, when the dressings finally arrived we were nearly finished with the salads. The prime ribs were served on a cold metal plate, as a result they were already lukewarm to cold when we started eating. We returned them for re-heating and serving on a warm porcelain plate - the kitchen and the waitress were finally able to handle that - expensive - food properly. Spicing was very good and it was cooked exactly to order. The grouper was way too salty, the snapper was good. Bread was also good, warm and crispy. Waitress was clearly overwhelmed.|The second day we didn

After a day on the water with Captiva Cruises, we stopped on the island to have lunch and tour the museum. We decided to have lunch at the Collier Inn. What a wonderfully historic place. You walk in and you are taken back to the early 1900's. We were seated in the main dining room which was wonderfully decorated. Our server, Joey, was awesome. He was able to get an answer to all of our vegetarian and vegan questions. While there was only a salad and black beans and rice on the menu for us, the chef was able to create a stir fry dish...which was very tasty. All of the meals we had were very tasty and the atmosphere wonderful. ||||The only negative was that service was a little slow which did not allow us much time at the museum; however, Joey was great and the food marvelous, so I will not
