Thunderbird Motel

Rented 2 rooms. Management first assigned me to street side room, smelled of heavy smoke, excess traffic noise. I requested a different room and assigned another room with musty smell. My observations are: $70 per night room rate is way to much. There is excessive differed maintenence problems everywhere, out dated electrical, plumbing, flooring, beds, entry door, etc. My brother's room next door had been broken into and door not repaired. Believe the 1 star ratings on these reviews. I would not recommend this place at all.

Made a reservation on a third-party site, and I got confirmation from the hotel that our very late check-in would be fine. Upon arrival the parking lot was blocked off and hotel dark. We got food and I called the hotel and explained that we'd booked and received confirmation from them directly. The man was apologetic but the idea that a project like a parking lot resurfacing hardly would be a surprise for a business and they should have done better about making us aware that staying there that night wasn't possible. After driving 9 hours with a dog, it was incredibly frustrating. Especially because the area is so small. We were not expecting the motel to be fancy by any means. We arrived at the location at 12pm and I asked a housekeeper to show me a room before we decided to stay as the grounds were a bit questionable. She showed me a clean room that was spacious. It was outdated and dark but was acceptable. We decided to book and went to the front desk which was closed but has a phone number to call. We were told to come back at 2pm. When we returned we asked for the room that we had been shown and were told it was no longer available. We agreed to another room, and when we opened the door, it had not been cleaned since the last guest. The front desk gave us a different room which was horrifying. Room was clean, people in the office were very friendly We passed through Dodge City on our way to Colorado and unknowingly stumbled in to Dosge City days. Room availability was extremely low and we had tried several other places unsuccessfully. The lady in the office was very nice and explained that they had both renovated and unrenovated rooms available. We chose a renovated room and we were pleasantly surprised by the room. The prices were very decent as well.

The young lady owner was extremely professional and accommodating. The motel is under a room by room renovation to make it more modern. Nothing disturbing as far as noise. But they are improving the rooms. Very clean and very close to all the attractions in the area. The price is right and the staff are worth a visit.
