The Venice Beach Hostel

Made a reservation for three nights, then called to talk to the manager, and he started making excuses for how it's only for "young" people and what a shame that there was only a dorm room available for me (which is what I had booked!), and then 'oh no, there's only a top bunk available, can't put you there,' which I said was *fine* -- so that ploy didn't work for him as he tried to screen me out due to age and get me to cancel. He cancelled anyway and said I was on my own with trying to recover the Hostelworld booking fee. Clearly illegal age discrimination, lying, and overall a very shady operation -- definitely avoid.

Extremely rude host! I travelled 61 countries, lived in many hostels and have never met anyone that rude!!|I booked this hostel via Hostelworld and arrived to the address sent to me on the top of the email. The building looks like an apartment, no sign that this is a hostel. On the door, there is a note ‘check in at 2195 Yale Aver’, which is 10 min walk and I had a heavy luggage. I decided to call the number and see if I can leave my luggage there and then walk 10min to the reception. The number provided on the website doesn’t work.|When I was gonna start walking, the host arrived on a bike and asked me to walk to the reception and said he has 2 hostels and I will be staying at the other one, as this one has ‘creepy and old guys’, (which is true, the main doors don’t close and it looks lik

Stayed here on a solo vacation and had a great time! Everyone who works there is very nice and personable, and Ian was a great help getting me situated with the area! The dormitory rooms are what one would expect from a hostel, but for 30 dollars a night, it's more than enough! Bathroom was clean, kitchen was well stocked with the necessities, and they came around every day to tidy up! The location is great near Venice Beach as well as numerous cafes and restaurants! I would stay here again when I'm in LA again!

Had a very positive experience in this hostel! Laid back, amazing staff (Bahal is amazing) and it just feels like a big family. Cool hostel with a personality for sure.

Host wasn’t there when I arrived. I had already paid a deposit so I took a shower in the public bathroom as I was in a hurry. When the host came back, he said that because I did this, he felt me staying there was unsafe for the other guests and cancelled my booking??? Honestly I’m glad he did because the whole place smelled like mold.
