The Queen Hotel Queen Village, Sonder

I booked over a month in advance, and less than 24 hours before my check in I was sent an email asking for identity verification to check in. First time I'd ever seen something like that, so I decided to call the hotel - and connected with an off-shore call center. They informed me there is no front desk and I must complete the identity verification otherwise I could not check in. At this point the hotel is non-refundable, I've made my plans accordingly, so I deal with the creepy driver's license and selfie capture. I get my access code - mind you the same code for front door, elevator, and room. When I first arrive (rather late) there's already someone at the door smoking and he uses his code to get in. I feel awkward following him in, but once we get in the elevator now his code isn't

Terrible - no one to check you in. Couldnt access the room. Called a number on the elevator the guy off site couldn’t get us in the room. We bailed and stayed in old city at the Klimpton. It cost more money but not enough to feel like I was risking my life, sanity or the safety of my family. Spend more to stay at a real hotel. Or air bnb at least with air bnb there is someone there to help you rather than some nonsense like this. Awful terrible experience. Might call up 311 and report them. No idea how this is legal.

Where to begin? First my friend and I get an email a day before we arrive (after having the reservation months in advance) they cannot give us the two beds we needed. Their solution? An "upgrade" to a king size single or we can cancel (their words). The room was sad. Small and not even a cot or couch. And since there's nobody working any service there other than security, none could be asked for. From loose light fixtures to a musty bathroom. I almost never bother leaving bad reviews? But this was something else.

A lodging with zero ZERO staff on-site is a safety nightmare. I was coming home alone from a business dinner on Friday night when a drunk man caught the door and followed me inside. I walked briskly to the elevator hoping I could leave him in the lobby, but of course the elevator doesn’t go anywhere until you put in the stupid code. He opens the door and stumbles in, slurring something about how he needs to go to the basement to get his clothes (???). Terrified, I key in my code and push my floor, only to realize that he could just follow me to my room. Confirming my worst fear, he does indeed stumble off on my floor, rambling about his clothes. At this point I’m just desperate to put a door between us, so I convinced him to sit in the chair by the elevator (he was so drunk he couldn't sta

This hotel is NOT SAFE! There is no human concierge, and the code was not working to gain entry to the building for me or other guests. It was already night, and I tried calling, but the manager was "unavailable." Luckily, I was able to stay with a friend that evening, but all of my things were still at the hotel. I can't imagine what would have happened if I didn't have contacts in the city. DO NOT STAY HERE.
