Great location. King Suite on 3rd floor was nice. We weren't aware that we needed to call the hotel to request a specific room. Christmas Prix Fix dinner was stellar, as was the service. Beef cheeks tasted like Mom's homemade pot roast! The following night, Live Jazz in the bar was outstanding too. The bar closed at 9pm on Thursday so we went across the street to The Mine Shaft and it was a fun dive bar. So many wonderful shops, artists, hiking trails, and a couple delish wine tasting rooms within walking distance. Pretty nice first experience at The National and Nevada City. The only downside was that we expected Sunday brunch to be as good as Christmas Day dinner and it was the complete opposite. But not to worry as there are many unique bistro's and dining spots that are culinary jewels
The last leg of my Highway 49 journey ended in Nevada City, and there was no better place to land than the National Exchange Hotel. I checked in just before starting my new house sit, and it instantly felt like I’d stepped into another world — the best possible kind. I’ve stayed in almost every type of Gold Rush–era hotel along the Mother Lode, and most lean into charm over comfort. The National Exchange Hotel is different. It’s beautifully restored, impeccably run, and truly luxurious without trying too hard. From the moment I walked in, everything felt warm, welcoming, and effortlessly professional. The staff here is on the level of the world’s finest hotels — the sort of places where service is so good you barely notice it happening. Honestly, they could rival the service at The Ritz i
Beautiful, stylish, all the comforts and historical charm. We stayed in the king studio suite 208 and it was spacious with a small table and loveseat couch. Perfect place to stay! Lovely town to visit. The bar and restaurant downstairs are convenient but there are many other spots to explore for dining amd drinks in the area. Staff is the best!
Definitely a very nice old old timey hotel. The king suite room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. Note there are no TVs in the rooms which is fine. They do have decent Wi-Fi to use your phone or iPad or tablet if you so chose to do so. Had reservations in the restaurant Lola in the hotel for New Year's Eve multi-course dinner at the restaurant. Unfortunately the portions were small and the service was rushed due to it being full because of New Year's Eve. Had expected a New Year's Eve champagne toast at midnight at the bar as part of the deal as advertised on their website, but unfortunately they closed the bar before midnight so that was disappointing. Also the complimentary coffee service in the morning was disappointing because they ran out of coffee shortly after 9 am and alth
Our experience with the National Exchange Hotel started off amazing but then sorta slid downhill. We booked a birthday staycation here specifically so I could use the clawfoot tub in Room 317, since we don't have a tub at home. The person who made the reservation for me was amazing—super-friendly, understood the importance of getting that specific room (since there are only two with tubs in the whole hotel), and even found us a discount. ||When we got to the hotel, there was no parking. They only have about 15 spaces for a 38-room hotel and no contract with any other parking lots in the area. The desk clerk frostily informed us we could pay to park on the street (3-hour limit, meters are off from 6pm to 9am) as if we were somehow being unreasonable for expecting the hotel to have a parking
