My boyfriend and I booked a room for Valentine’s Day. We were pretty disappointed with what we had experienced. While The Midland is not a bad hotel, we expected better for what we paid for. We were given a room with an inoperative fridge, a shower door that we assume was installed improperly, and hair in our folded towels. The shower door did not align with the edge of the shower itself. It would catch on the edge, not allowing you to fully close or open without a good push, which is not something you want to do to a glass door. My boyfriend was double charged for the room as well. At first, the person in the lobby said it was for room service we didn’t order. Then for tv programs we didn’t purchase. Then, insisted it was for incidentals and would fall off in a few days. Wonderful location, especially if you're going to a show. Close to theaters and St. Peter's Church. Love the 'house' music they throughout the lobby and elevators. The bar looks awesome, but I'm not sure it was open (we stayed a Saturday to Sunday)...never saw anyone sitting at the rail. Customer service was so-so. Only saw the person who checked us in (not unfriendly but not super friendly) and a housekeeper (they were nice). We stayed in a room that faced the L Train...which we heard about every 10-15 minutes. If you're a light sleeper...you would struggle. The room was clean and really nice. Bed was comfortable.

Positive: Beautiful old building. Great location. Free coffee in lobby. Front desk workers very professional and friendly. Lobby bar area is beautiful. Pillows were very comfortable. Got upgraded to a bigger room, which helped a lot. Negative: Got stuck in elevator on 17th floor, went up & down repeatedly, then we walked down from 11th floor Very scary. Front desk didn't seem surprised. Walked up 17 flights of stairs to get to room later that night after we got back from dinner.

Honestly this is one of the best kept budget secrets in the Loop. I'm not sure if it's always reasonably priced, but for the value, this place hits all the marks. Yes, you'll hear the train from time to time, but the location is good and safe, and the staff is exceptional. Lots of smiles, kindness, and helpful information. Q at the front desk was a standout for me, giving great advice on local eateries. This property is right across the street from the JW Marriott, and I really feel like it measures up. I was upgraded to a suite, so the room had plenty of space, and even an additional half-bath. It was really nice, and I would absolutely stay here again without hesitation.

First time staying in the Midland Hotel and I would highly recommend it. Walking distance to all popular tourist attractions in the city. Neighborhood felt very safe to walk around alone. Hotel has a great atmosphere and grand banquet sort of vibes. Lobby Bar looks very nice, although I did not order any drinks there. I stayed for 3 nights in a King suite. Room was very spacious. 1.5 bathrooms. Comfortable bed. However there was no refrigerator in the room. Overall enjoyed my stay.
