Family style restaurant. There wasn't any sort of menu or options for the food but when it came out there was a lot of it. The fired chicken was very crispy and tasted great, the chicken and dumplings were very good, my father in law really like the meatloaf. The Mac and cheese and potatoes unfortunately were cold. They probably should add pricing and what is being served someplace noticeable before you go in. It's not a bad place to eat but they could improve several things.
Found this inn online, thought we would give it a try. If you have to have all the extras than look elsewhere, the stairs creek, the doors stick, the faucet might drip, and you have to wait for the hot water to arrive!! If you want history, stories and time to slow down and enjoy the company of the folks you are traveling with, than this is the place for you!!!! This is a very old inn that holds wonderful history!!! It is loaded with antique furniture that adds to the charm. Porches are loaded with rocking chairs for you to sit and enjoy your morning coffee or an evening chat with friends and family. We were able to get a room with 3 full size beds so we could all stay in the same room!! Had tons of space for all 6 of us!!! The inn could use some updates but we did get the chance to meet
This review applies only to the restaurant. My entire extended family of 25+ people have had dinner here every year in the summer for forty years. We have some very skilled Southern cooks in our family, and we all agree to go back here each year. The entrees are expensive ($15 or so) , but the meal comes with all you can eat family style helpings of slaw, beets, buttered potatoes, green beans, beets and biscuits. The menu is usually fried trout, fried chicken, baked ham, chicken and dumplings (our fave - tons of chicken) and pot roast. It's fun to each get something and then share all around. Serving sizes are very generous and we never have room for their incredible sounding desserts. They have limited alcohol available there - basically wines but not beer or liquor. The staff is
Great staff but there is no central heat and air, so they have individual AC units that have small gaps on the side of the window that warm air and gnats can come through. So they run all night on full blast. Also, the building is very old, which is great, but the doors don't line up on the frames, so they have like 4 locks on every door and our bathroom door could not close but instead had to be left open with a two inch crack. All in all I had a very good time here, except for feeling slightly ill and spending 15 minutes sweating in a muggy, poorly ventilated restroom. In my opinion, they need to make the big plunge on some costly but very important renovations to attract more customers and better reviews. If they did renovate, I would stay here again.
I believe that the Jarrett House is under new management. They have done some renovations and it looks good. They have gone back to bringing bowls of whatever they are serving that meal and refilling when needed. The day we were there, they had fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, beans, stewed apples, potatoes, creamed corn, fried okra, onion casserole, and biscuits. The vidalia onion casserole and the apple dessert were the stars of the meal. The fried okra was pretty good. The rest of the offerings was just ok. Nothing was as hot as you would expect. The fried chicken wasn't crispy at all. Over all, not the experience that we have come to expect here. As I said, I think that there is new management. Hopefully, they will address these issues and get back to their ow
